COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Kriek de Rank is real Belgian sour ale fermented with cherries and then blended with real lambic. It is unfiltered and unpasterized. The de Rank brewery was founded by two good friends; Nino Bacelle & Guido Devose. To them, brewing is a weekend hobby, not an occupation. For a few hours every week they make small batches of what many consider the best specialty beers. Their beers are robust and flavorful. They use the best Hallertau and brewer’s Gold varieties of hops.

Looks.. Blood orange red, little pink head. Smells.. Cherry and danky lambic barnyard. Tastes.. Loads of cherry, takes over as a dominant sour flavour over the green apple/lemon citrus of the lambic, dry wood finish. Great.

Has a beautiful, saturated cherry-red color, with a hazy glow to it. I don’t even have to put my nose into the glass, as the whole kitchen starts to smell of funky sour cherries, while pouring the beer. The aromas combine the Flanders Red Ale vinegar, funky tartness, with a distinct Kriek fruitiness of ripe sour cherries outstandingly well. Wooden qualities compliment to the sweet cherries, adding an earthy cherry-stone note. Tastes of slightly tart cherries among earthy, barely noteable malts. A crisp note of lemon peel, as well as a higher carbonation invite the funk, which turns quite sour, with a dry aspect to it, while it never overpowers the cherries. Instead, the cherries seem to rejuvenate, while the sourness increases, evoking a refreshing spriziness. The sour aspect includes a fermented fruit note, as well as a glimpse of vinegar, among wooden malts, which turn more recognizable towards the finish, together with sweet, ripe cherries, as the funk settles down. A fruity, slick cherry flavor remains on the tongue for a longer while, with the sourness already faded.

Bottle with Poet and Fran. Pizza night. Pours a fairly murky red colour with little head to speak of. The aroma is a fine mix of cherry and musky barnyard character. The flavour is also very good--tart, some sweetness, good cherry flavour, mild acidity (likes lemon). Refreshing. Makes a good aperitif.

Flaska köpt på Systembolaget Ringen, Stockholm. Riktigt fin i doften, smaken lever inte riktigt upp till förväntningarna som kommer av doften men fortfarande fin öl med bra syra. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Fantastisk körsbärssmak. Smakar som man äter körsbär på riktigt. Surt så munnen gör miner & doften är inte fy skam heller! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

@ Basunen 14-11-29: fin syrlig doft av körsbär. Smaken är riktigt trevlig med stora syrliga toner och lång frisk eftersmak. Gott. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone ---- Soberness not garanteed!

The aroma was very much mostly cherry with a horsey barnyard underneath. It poured a hazy deep red with a pinkish head that dissipated quickly leaving no lace at all. I drank this at about 12ºC, and it started out with a nice interplay between sweet and sour. It got better as it warmed to room temperature, and by the end of this 750mL bottle, it was decidedly delicious. Very tart without being too mouth puckering. The blend is spot on. A pleasantly thin-ish mouthfeel that got more viscous the warmer the ale got. Overall I enjoyed this one a lot. I am always hesitant to give such high marks, but damnit this one deserves it.

Pours hazy red with low pink head. Aroma of cherries, redcurrant, red berries, surprisingly little yeast but certainly hints of bretta. Taste is medium fruit tart, somewhat funky, cherries and berries, lingering fruit in the finish. Light, crisp body with soft to average carbonation.

750ml paper wrapped green bottle, with a simple label with just typography, poured into a Tulip glass. Appearance is a hazy deep reddish pink with a small pink head that quickly dissipated, leaving no lacing. Aroma of ripe cherries, marzipan and barnyard. Flavours of ripe cherries, marzipan, lemon peels, green apples and table grapes. Taste is light sweet and heavy sour. Palate is light bodied, smooth texture and average carbonation. De Ranke Kriek is one of the best beers I had in the style, pleasantly sour and not overly sweet, the flavours are natural, crisp and dry.
