3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours slightly hazed burnt sienna..light tan head. Nose is mellow, some softly roasted grains, but not much else coming through. Malty flavors with some sour mash-like influences giving it a little more character than I was expecting from the nose. Sweetness surely dominates the hop presence, but not to the point of making it too syrupy....its still crisp in the finish.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle. Poured into Orval chalice, pours a thick beige head and immediately an incredibly candylike blossom scent reveals. Smell of sugary plums and roasted caramel. Lots of roasted malts. Aroma’s of sweet candy, fondant chocolate and yeast. Slightly vinous. Very slick. There’s a very warming alcoholic sensation in the aftertaste and then finishes off bitter.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark brown pour with a lively tan cappuccino like froth that dissipates slowly. The lace is thick and intricate. The aroma immediately fills the neighboring space with notes of caramel, toffee, and bread. Going in for an actual whiff intensifies this effect to a great degree. The malt character is phenomenal- a huge molasses and brown sugar dark sugar backbone swirls together with lighter notes of caramel and toffee to create quite the sensation. A slight nondescript hop bitterness acts for balance, but never intrudes on the malty goodness. The flavor presents with massive notes of dark sugar, but this time with much more dark fruit. Raisin and plum are at the forefront with brown sugar and caramel being their usual selves. Every facet of dark sugar and dark fruit is covered here- amazingly complex and flavorful while retaining an excellent bitter balance that one often finds in a cloying example of the style. The palate is thick, chewy, velvety, and soft with pillowy carbonation and a smacking finish. An incredible brew indeed.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
(bottle - 330 ml) Deep ruby red pour with a thin layer of tan foam. Starts at about an inch and quickly fades to about 1/8 of an inch and lasts. Surprisingly mild aroma. Some light yeast and spice with just the faintest hint of caramel malts. Nutty and malty at the start of the flavor with a smooth caramel and spice flavor in the middle. A very roasted and burnt finish with a lot of spice comes through at the end and lingers for quite a while. Alcohol is pretty well hidden.
