3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
750 ml bottle; clear, deep dark brown with creamy tan head lingering; candy syrup, brown sugar, figs, dried fruit, chocolate; very fresh and rich aromas; has that rich, milky cream belgian sugar thing going on for sure; thin texture and mild creamy mouthfeel; a little roast with herbs and dry spice; more dry than sweet and surprisingly light overall given the complex aromas; seems very attenuated and absent of suffocating sweetness of many belgain darks; toasted oat, chocolate, dry cereal; an interesting beer with a complex nose but kind of bland and thin flavor profile

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Lätt rostat med enbart små toner av torkat frukt.
Lite tunn munkänsla och smaken är bara så där småtrevlig. Småkryddig, halvsöt och rent av inget spännande.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a murky brown with ruby highlights and one finger of tan head. Nose is chocolaty with some caramel and spice and a mild yeast presence. Flavor is mild and meh, some roasted malt and cardboard with a mild hop bitterness.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Deep hazy caramel brown with small beige head. Aroma is molasses, Belgian-style ale yeast, candy sugar and hints of wood. Taste is roasted malts, dusty hops, tarty wooden tones and hints of brandy. Very smooth. A well crafted and unexpectedly original take on the classic Belgian strong ale genre, with a barrel aged twist. Or, at least, something that produces a similar effect. Nice.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Very dark red brownish colour with a nice frothy off white head. Very hard alcoholic tone in the nose. Like petrol. Behind the alcohol comes fruit and marzipan, some yeast, malts and hops. Taste is very sweet with a nicely balanced finish of malts and hops. Theres caramel, syrup and berries. And I actually feel a slight hint of marzipan. The big hit of alcohol in the nose is pretty well hidden in the mouth. Body is medium. Quite sweet, but I like it!

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. Dark brown, average fully diminishing light brown head. Moderate sugary sweet and malty aroma, some fruitiness with notes of plums. Body is medium, malty and sweet flavor, some fruitiness with notes of plums. Finish is average, malty and sweetish. Sweet strong ale, nice fruitiness but too much sugary sweetness and alcohol in flavor.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
(bottle, 33cl) Hazy, dark mahogany colour with a big and beige foamy head. Yeasty, earthy and leafy aroma with a distinctively roast-malty touch, accompanied by notes of dark chocolate. Moderately sweet and burned bitter flavour, medium to full bodied with a smooth carbonation. Yeasty and roast-malty, slightly burned and earthy taste with notes of chocolate; slightly sweet and burnt bitter finish with notes of chocolate and hoppy spice. Pleasant and recommendable. 25.XI.10

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from the Spirit Haus in Amherst, Mass. Still has a great selection and everything is stocked in the same place it was when I left 4 years ago. Love this store. The dark ale from De Ranke pours a dark brown amber with a sudsy tan head. Nose of roasted malt, banana, light hops, light brown sugar. Flavor is layered malty balance, light hops notes. Very solid BSA.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
20101124 11.2 oz bottle from State Line. Had no idea what this was when I bought it, and no idea what to expect when I opened it other than that it was strong and dark. Well, it is that. Light cocoa brown color, clouded, with small, fading beige head. Aroma is richly fruity with notes of prune, fig, sassafras, and isopropyl alcohol. Boozy as hell, but only really on the nose, while the flavor is simply medium sweet, mildly salty, a touch of cooling mint, and a surprising but quite nice finishing hop bite. Nice choice and execution of bittering hops on this one as it really helps keep perspective across the mid palate, taming any potential sweetness, and then combines nicely with ample carbonation and a mild alcohol spice for a relative brisk finish for such a strong beer. Sorry I didn’t buy the big bottle.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Hazy reddish brown with a medium-sized beige head. Aroma: dried fruit, brown sugar, malt, raisins. Taste: malty, apples, brown sugar, perhaps some julmust, some fruit, some port, with an earthy, herbal bitterness. Quite a full mouthfeel. Nice enough, but a bit too sweet.
