The heaviest ale on our menu with a very rich taste, coming from the six different kinds of malt we use. These malts also give it that rich, dark, nearly black colour. The royal doses of Challenger and Saaz hops bring the typical balance between sweet and bitter.

Pours a reddish brown with a thick offwhite head. Aroma of sour cherries, roasted malts, candy sugar, and brown sugar. Flavors were sweet with a bit of tartness, along with rich toasty malt notes, and Belgian candy sugar. Very candy like. Maybe a hint of alcohol. Nice astringent and surprisingly ’quick’ finish that leaves very little sweetness on the palate. Overall a pretty good beer.

330 ml bottle. Pours a very dark brown/black with light tan head. Aromas of dark fruit, roasted malts, and maybe a hint of licorice. Flavor is similar with additional caramel and citrus notes. Somewhat sweet and bit acidic.

Bomber. Thanks to KyotoLefty. Aroma is a mix of sweet fruits and some prune. Thick dark brown with a light beige head. Prunes are the first note, and then what seems like some oxidation (though I’m not sure that’s what it is). Smooth fruit notes throughout initial, mid, and final. Medium body. The oxidation notes don’t really interfere.

Blackberry, cassis aroma. Flavours: malt, sweet. Nice genuine Belgian ale. Ideal for sipping in front of the fire in winter

From bottle, served in branded snifter glass at Biercraft on The Drive. Fruity nose. Thin head. Very dark brown, not black in color. Flavor is fruity, nutty, rich, like a very flavorful stout. Some aftertaste. Very nice!

Bottle. Hazy deep brown body. Frothy, tan head, mostly lasting. Aroma of cookie, toasted malt, bread, herbs, mustiness. chocolate, licorice. Hint of pepper. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture turning velvety in the finish, lively carbonation. Lingering bitterness with notes of anise in the taste balance the sweet malts. Tastes of mint and clover are noticeable. Lacking a richness that one would expect in a 9% Belgian strong.

UPDATED: MAY 31, 2012 Tap in Moeder Fontainas. Brown colour rather than black. Lovely full malty character, with spice and a bit of booze, but they must have loaded the hops in here as it still finishes dry, bitter and long. Lots of flavour - an excellent beer.

750 ml bottle - pours dark brown with red hint - steady 2 finger head. Aroma of dark malt and caramel, some citrus hints as well. Medium to full body with a nice baalnce between sweetness and freshness. Combined this with crued milk cheeses and the combination gave a nice chocolaty finish to the beer

(Bottle) Dark reddish brown colour with rich, creamy, beige head. Roasted, malty nose with notes of liquorice, toffee, dried fruit, raisins, dark chocolate and burnt/caramelized sugar. Malty, roasted taste with chocolate, tobacco, dried fruit, candy sugar, soy sauce and liquorice. More than medium body, fairly sweet, with a gentle citric bitterness. Tasty and well balanced. Nice one.
