COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Unfiltered.
Ingredients: Water; Barley malt; Hops; Candi-sugar; Yeast.
The heaviest ale on our menu with a very rich taste, coming from the six different kinds of malt we use. These malts also give it that rich, dark, nearly black colour. The royal doses of Challenger and Saaz hops bring the typical balance between sweet and bitter.

Dark mahogany pour with a frothy tan head. Aroma is prunes, chocolate, yeast, and molasses. Taste is prunes, bread, faint chocolate, and char. Sweet overall with a little bitterness. Prickly carbonation. Interesting.

330ml bottle of very dark brown ale that pours with a fine head. A layer of dark sediment remained on the bottom of the bottle after a complete pour. The rich, moderately complex flavor is dominated by dark fruits and dark roasted malts. Traces of smoke, hints of black coffee, bitter chocolate and toffee. Everything, including bitter/sweet, seems in perfect balance. Overall: Higher ABV is very well hidden. Highly recommended.

At cellar temperature and into a chalice. Fine sediment settles quickly to the base of the glass. The body a misty, ruby tinged brown with good legs and a fine and tight bead amongst its whipped up tan cream of a head. Initially soft is the nose. Raisins and prunes in syrup, muscatels and tawny port, burnt sugar and an earthy maltiness slowly breathes from the glass. On the palate it has a soft butteriness to some otherwise savoury, dried fruit notes. Palate is smooth and for 9.0% ABV it really holds it in check far too well. Not big in body by all accounts but rounded and poignant. Good length becoming quite woody and nutty with plenty of yeast in there. Quite fruity, vinous and port-like. There is a burnt smoky note held in the depths I just can’t pinpoint but it melds well. Drinks like a Belgian Strong should. Long and dry with plump fruit upfront and just enough sweetness to balance. Lovely stuff! (33cL, unknown drink - by [label not cropped], Int’l Beer Shop, Leederville)

Absolut im Rahmen eines klassischen belgischen mit einem guten Schuss Alkohol, ordentlich in der Hefigkeit und Perlung. Trotzt der Schwere angenehm zu trinken.

Bottle from Rudat in Dortmund. The beer has got a deep black colour with a small head and smooth body. Aroma of Belgian yeast, dark bread and roast. Taste of Belgian yeast, barley, roasted bread, roast, caramel, flowers and woods. Yeasty finish.

Bottle from the depths of the fridge. Dark auburn with tan pillowy head and decent lacing. Smells a tad chocolatey and boozy and raisiny and tobacco-y. First sip is a little metallic but that fades quickly into a chocolatey, dark fruity, and bitter flavor. Big but clean.

High rating for aroma and taste. Reminds me of cinnamon, it hit like that. Dark and bitter is right.

Aroma: Hazy yeasts like cinnamon Appearance: Brownish copper colour and slick head Taste: Little sweet like toffee Palate: Medium body, medium thick texture, soft carbonation, and spicy flavour of yeasts finish Overall: Draft at Brasserie St. Bernardus in Tokyo. Some Light and flat flavour as the strong ale(ABV 9.0%), but not so bad

Pours a dark brownish/black. Aromas of intense dried fruit...raisins and prunes. Lots of warm spices too. Very Flavourful...a novelty ale for me.

Dark brown beer with a big beige head that dissipates quickly. Medium carbonation. Smell is herbal, coffee, caramel. Taste is caramel, roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolat, dry, with a dry, bitter aftertaste that lasts a while.
