Commercial Description:
A fantastic Christmas beer, but one that defies the universal custom of a stronger, spicier beer for the holiday season. At 7% alcohol by volume, this one is relatively lighter in alcohol than the Guldenberg, and does not pack the hop punch of the XX. It combines some of the best elements of those other two beers – with a fine balance of malt and hops, complex character, a refreshing dryness, and a gorgeous cellar aroma – but is distinguished by its festive copper color. The 1999 Père Noël was a bit of a departure, with a very appealing yeasty tartness that was not readily discernible in earlier years.

hazy yellowish burnt brown color w/ a big fluffy fairly dense white head w/ some good lacing. Odd aroma w/ some pretty dominate spice notes and an odd yeast component that is just a bit different definate bread doughes as well. Palate is fairly avg. Flavor is nice, a light hoppy tingle on my tongue that reminded me of some grasses w/ a light biscuit note an odd earthy finish some definate belgian yeast notes. and a warm swallow.

33 cL bottle. Pours orange with white head. Strange smell, sour and very little hops - it must be yeast. Reminds me a bit about champagne. Taste i sweet-sour. It changes much with the temp. initial colder beer had manu dark notes (unusual dark given the colour) which goes into more bitter-sour light notes as the beer warms up. Bitter and dry aftertaste. Not bad but not very christmassy

Dark yellow colored, little yellow head. Cloudy appearance. Spicy, fruity, some weird berries and alcohol in aroma. Medium bodied. Slightly watery palated, not any "winter-warmer". Flavor has spices with berries and some sour tones, still not very tasty beer. Aftertaste has mild lemon, licorice and some alcohol.

750 ml Bottle. 09 2011 (bottled 09/ 2006) Capped and corked (and seeping through the cork). Pours a clear medium copper color with a huge, frothy ivory head. Yeasty aroma with some bread notes but not much else. Somewhat lagerish in it’s flavor with a slight eggy note. Bread and herbs with a very dry finish.

Bottle: Yellow, light head and lacing. Nose of zesty hops and dry sweet malt, some sage and lemon. The flavor is balanced with some nice malt and a dry/bitter hopping. Not very belgian with all the herbal notes.

Bottled. Nutbrown colour, small white head. Aroma is yeast, cartboard. berries and some hops. Flavour is nuts. fruits and slight yeast. Also slight alcohol to be notes. Quite a watery brew for being 7%. No winterwarmer... nor that much Christmas in it...

Pours orange brown with a large uneven white bubble structured head. Very nice aroma of banana, clove, orange peel, and spices. Lighter fruity peppery flavor with a subtle dry bitter finish. Carbonation level is just about right, by my tastes. Slight metallic flavor is noted as well. Other than being a little on the thin side, it’s a pretty decent representative. However, at around $13 a bottle, there are many cheaper belgians which blow this one away.
