Commercial Description:
A fantastic Christmas beer, but one that defies the universal custom of a stronger, spicier beer for the holiday season. At 7% alcohol by volume, this one is relatively lighter in alcohol than the Guldenberg, and does not pack the hop punch of the XX. It combines some of the best elements of those other two beers – with a fine balance of malt and hops, complex character, a refreshing dryness, and a gorgeous cellar aroma – but is distinguished by its festive copper color. The 1999 Père Noël was a bit of a departure, with a very appealing yeasty tartness that was not readily discernible in earlier years.

Hazy amber lae with a thick off white head. Herbal light mal aroma with light hops. Im mouth, an earthy celery malt with light green peppers and alcohol nites. A strange brew. Bottle at BCTC 2006.

The messiest bottle of beer I ever had!!!!!!!. I opened it and half the bottle shot up and squirted me in the forehead, shirt and pants!!!!! Head goes quickly and very opaque honey coloring. Spicey tabasco pepper flavoring with belgian cheesy yeast. Dry finish. Very different for a de Ranke offering.

Drunk 5 months after christmas. Amber colour, medium stable beige creamy head. Lots of particles in the body. Alcohol, funky yeast, ananas, honey, lemon, orange, malts. Bitter but sweet initial flavour, some annoying and too salty aftertaste.

Aroma is slightly musty with spicy/fruity notes just beneath. Orange tinted tan in color with a diminishing, thumb thick, white head. Has a crisp tartness in the fore and ample orange peel notes that aren’t truly bitter, but none the less hold that the peel flavor. Some wholesome sweetness that is bread sweet rather than candy sweet though there is a fruity (apple mostly) sweet twang int he finish. The mustiness of the aroma is evident again in the flavor. Carbontion is medium to low, but complimentary to the beer.

Lots of lace, two samples and the colder bottle, newly opened, with strong carbonation was more tasty. The warmer one with sediment at the bottom, was fine but not as tasty. Noticeably fruity and spicy Belgian more than anything, and would like even better in the cold wnter. Sampled at Cole’s Belgianfest.

The beer poured a cloudy brownish orange w/ thick lasting head and lacing. The aroma was full of light fruit, spice, honey, and lemons. The flavor was lemony, honey, light fruit, and coriander. The mouthfeel was light bodied and lightly carbonated.

Bottle... Very murky, golden ale with a mid-sized, fluffy, off-white head. Excellent retention. Earthy, spicy, woodsy nose with notes of cobwebs, leather, bread and lye soap. Well-balanced flavor... just a touch on the bitter side. Steady malt. Mildly spicy, tangy, and earthy with minor notes of sea salt and white pepper. Medium-bodied with an astringent mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Finishes lightly bitter and bone dry.
