Commercial Description:
A fantastic Christmas beer, but one that defies the universal custom of a stronger, spicier beer for the holiday season. At 7% alcohol by volume, this one is relatively lighter in alcohol than the Guldenberg, and does not pack the hop punch of the XX. It combines some of the best elements of those other two beers – with a fine balance of malt and hops, complex character, a refreshing dryness, and a gorgeous cellar aroma – but is distinguished by its festive copper color. The 1999 Père Noël was a bit of a departure, with a very appealing yeasty tartness that was not readily discernible in earlier years.

750 ml bottle with a cork and cap pours a cloudy glowing orange with a huge creamy off white head that leaves a sticky lacing in my glass. Flowery , musty lemon aromas. Apple, pear, citrus and spicy pepper flavors, medium bodied with a soft and creamy mouthfeel, almost perfect. Finishes dry and bitter, very drinkable.

Very cloudy murky orange; huge fluffy head that was very active right out of the bottle; very bready nose. Very mild. Some yeastiness, but I am not excited at tall in the begining. Very boring... and I’m paying $26 for this f’ing bottle!!! BS!!!

cloudy golden orange with bright white head. Musty malt with background of citrus on the nose. Med weight with a bitter dry finish. Floral, with a light citrus quality and sweet malt. Not bad though a bit strange? Is it a saison or a ????

Opaque yellow-gold with a fluffy head. Creamy and smooth, with a decent weight to it. Sweet malt base -- light caramel and honey. Elements of flowers, perfume, tea, chewy yeast, delicate spices and mild herbs. Dry finish. No offenses, but it didn’t get me too excited, either.

This was a tough one to finish. 750ml BB date of 11-05. Initially served at 55 F. It poured a clear straw color with a mild head. Aroma of mild yeast, grain and mild fruit such as apples and white grapes. Initial taste was a one dimensional not too bad ala the aroma but had a bad finish that was slightly peppery and sweat mix. Ok,this was almost a drain pour. Only my 2nd Belgian that I felt that way about. I tossed it in amongst the ice for 20 minutes or so and it got a wee bit better. Finally at fridge temp and the last 1/4 of the bottle with some murkiness did it become a not so bad beer. Overall tho, this one was a chore. Unless you are a beer fanatic that wants to taste everything, don’t waste your $$.

Color, golden with a white head, some hops and fruits and herbs in the aroma, flavor was well, not particularly special, quite bland, with a hint of fruit, some sweetness, and a lightly bitter finish. Not great.
