COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A fantastic Christmas beer, but one that defies the universal custom of a stronger, spicier beer for the holiday season. At 7% alcohol by volume, this one is relatively lighter in alcohol than the Guldenberg, and does not pack the hop punch of the XX. It combines some of the best elements of those other two beers – with a fine balance of malt and hops, complex character, a refreshing dryness, and a gorgeous cellar aroma – but is distinguished by its festive copper color. The 1999 Père Noël was a bit of a departure, with a very appealing yeasty tartness that was not readily discernible in earlier years.

Hazy amber colored beer, small off-white head. Smell malts and hops. Taste light sweet, hops and bitter. Medium to full body and carbonation.

330 ml bottle from a Belgian Christmas Sampler Pack at Bevmo Salinas. Nose is very fruity with apricots cloves, yeast, and corriander. Hazy copper with a medium beige head. Flavor is nicely bitter, lighly sweet, with some appley fruit notes. Finishes moderately bitter.

Another score from De Ranke. Big malty nose. Hints of light fruits, lots of bread and yeast, Belgian sugary malts, and a touch of spice. Blends quite well. Lingering spice hopped finish. Sure it would be fantastic aged.

Has some nice hoppiness on the nose. Pours dark golden with an inch head which leaves a fair amount of lacing. Some interesting spice notes on the tongue but isn’t doing much for me. Pretty boring at the end of the day.

On tap @Ma Che Siete. One of the Belgian Ale I prefer to drink (especially on Christmas). White head, golden colour, sweet, fruity. Spicy and hoppy taste. Very good.

Picked this bottle up at West Lakeview in Chicago. Served in a Cantillon tulip. Pours a golden color with a creamy, dense head that reaches several fingers high. Lots and lots of lacing though not necessarily the best retention. The nose is pretty plain with some mild spicing--maybe a spruce-like character. The taste is a bit astringent and harsh, really. There is an odd bitterness in the finish. Body is medium with moderate carbonation. Really dry finish. This is pretty odd overall and I’m not quite sure what they were going for. The first half of the pour is slightly hazy gold, the second half is opaque hazed dark murky gold, thick beige head. Aroma of grains, floral and citrus hops. Taste is nicely balanced but leans towards more hop than malt. Bitter, herby finish. Nice beer all around.

Bottle. An amber/blonde coloured pour with a decent white head on top. Aroma of citrus fruit. Tastes very dry, citrus fruit, hoppy, quite bitter, crisp, tangy, spice. Quite complex, wouldn’t classify this as a Christmas beer. Well made Belgian.

Had bigger expectations but still just your standard above average belgian strong ale, fruity nose and palate, complex malts, just nothing overly impressive
