A fantastic Christmas beer, but one that defies the universal custom of a stronger, spicier beer for the holiday season. At 7% alcohol by volume, this one is relatively lighter in alcohol than the Guldenberg, and does not pack the hop punch of the XX. It combines some of the best elements of those other two beers with a fine balance of malt and hops, complex character, a refreshing dryness, and a gorgeous cellar aroma but is distinguished by its festive copper color. The 1999 Pre Nol was a bit of a departure, with a very appealing yeasty tartness that was not readily discernible in earlier years.

33 cL bottle. Pours orange with white head. Strange smell, sour and very little hops - it must be yeast. Reminds me a bit about champagne. Taste i sweet-sour. It changes much with the temp. initial colder beer had manu dark notes (unusual dark given the colour) which goes into more bitter-sour light notes as the beer warms up. Bitter and dry aftertaste. Not bad but not very christmassy

UPDATED: NOV 5, 2004 A hazy orange beer with a small brown collapsing head. The aroma is sweet fruity. The flavor is sweet spicy with notes of cinnamon and coriander before a dry end sets in.

(Bottle 75 cl) Paper wrapping says: Lot # 000002. Dark golden beer, slightly hazy with a thick, creamy head. Spicy - pehaps a wee hint of aniseed and oranges. Pronounced tartness and a very dry, bitter finish. 230202

Bottled. Nutbrown colour, small white head. Aroma is yeast, cartboard. berries and some hops. Flavour is nuts. fruits and slight yeast. Also slight alcohol to be notes. Quite a watery brew for being 7%. No winterwarmer... nor that much Christmas in it...

Sampled draught at Akkurat, Stockholm, Sweden.
Amber coloured, hazy. Big flowery, hoppy aroma. Sweet and light bodied with sparkling mouthfeel and good hop presence throughout with notes of honey. Salty, bitter finish. A very pleasant ale that runs down dangerously easy.

On tap somwhere! Cloudy amber beer, thick white head. Fairly dry palate but soft as well. Light dry malt, well balanced with a little sour fruit. Overall a sour creamy malt beer. Drinkable though.

A: Golden color with a fluffy white head that settles quickly to leave slight lacing. Fresh hops aroma with wildflowers, grass and mixed spices. Flavor starts with spice and progresses to bitterness in the middle and finish. Nice body. Definitely a top Christmas beer, unusual for its hoppiness and lack of sweetness.
