Commercial Description:
A fantastic Christmas beer, but one that defies the universal custom of a stronger, spicier beer for the holiday season. At 7% alcohol by volume, this one is relatively lighter in alcohol than the Guldenberg, and does not pack the hop punch of the XX. It combines some of the best elements of those other two beers – with a fine balance of malt and hops, complex character, a refreshing dryness, and a gorgeous cellar aroma – but is distinguished by its festive copper color. The 1999 Père Noël was a bit of a departure, with a very appealing yeasty tartness that was not readily discernible in earlier years.

Pours bright copper into a tulip. Offwhite fluffy head leaves sheet lacing and mounds as it slowly recedes. Sour brewing aromas. Dry with a lasting, sharp bitter finish.

Hazy amber-orangeish hue, with a fluffy white head, yeasty, fruity ripe apple nose, with a nice floral hop accent, with a hint of spiciness in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a yeasty, raw grainy, malty character, with some light fruity notes, a flowery hop citrusy bitterness, leading towards a floral hop bittering finish.

De Ranke beers have a certain real, natural quality - It has to be the strong hopping - spicy, and more sweet than I usually like overall - this is a thin-to-medium palate beer with cinnamon and other bark spice elements intermingled with a fruity bit. Newl 2004 bottle - good to put away, to mellow.

Dark amber with a few bubbles for a head. Aroma was sour, some spice, tart fruit, doughy malt. Flavor was sour/tart with some spice notes. A completely mediocre seasonal.

Well, not all Belgians can be winners. This one taste off, like bad vegetables. Its got a nicely fizzy head with decent malts, but their is a subtle taste of pepper that is unpleasant. This is not a winner

Amber of color with a nice white head. A pretty fresh aroma, notes of wood, apples, hops and spice. A flavor of spice, hops, bitter and a dry finish.
