3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Starts out nice, with a fresh saison-like hoppy bouquet and amber color with nice foamy head. Some fruity, yeasty elements as well. Hops dominate throughout (Hallertau/Goldings) and create a bitter profile overall, finishing with an almost astringent bitterness but, thank God, not in the league with some of the more vulgar Cascade-laced tonics. The problem is a lack of fullness and body in the middle - not alot of fruitiness, understated malt, and no spiciness. Funky, earthy qualities noted and are appealing to me, just not a big enough beer.

Thick creamy white head. Cloudy amber pour. A bit sweet and yeasty. Still a pretty decent beer.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Ranke’s Christmas beer, with light beige, thin but stable, creamy head and deep peach blond colour with brownish hue. Fruity and estery aroma of apple, mango, apricot, caramel and fresh green hops. Malty and fruity in the mouth, light sweetness, more drying spiciness in the finish with a refreshing, thirst-quenching, resinous, aromatic hop bitterness in the end. Atypical for a Belgian Christmas beer but very good - and I had not expected anything less from this brewery.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Average frothy off-white head, slowly diminishing. Hazy copper sparkling body.
Contains sweet (dried) fruits, forest fruits, citrus fruits, spices (cinnamon)
Light acidic, then bitter and sweet, then sweet and finally bitter.
Medium body, creamy texture, soft carbonation.
I like the aroma's but the changes in flavor are a bit harsh.

Bottle. Slightly cloudy amber pour, with an off white head. Bread, cardboard, berry, a bit fruity, spiiced, mild black pepper, and light sourness. Not much like a Christmas ale. Ok

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Not a typical christmas beer. Hazy color with a small head. Smells spicy and malty. Taste is somewhat between a saison dottignies and the guldenberg from De Ranke. Hoppy, malty, lemon zest, a little bit of sweetness, clear bitterness and dryness at the end.
