COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A fantastic Christmas beer, but one that defies the universal custom of a stronger, spicier beer for the holiday season. At 7% alcohol by volume, this one is relatively lighter in alcohol than the Guldenberg, and does not pack the hop punch of the XX. It combines some of the best elements of those other two beers – with a fine balance of malt and hops, complex character, a refreshing dryness, and a gorgeous cellar aroma – but is distinguished by its festive copper color. The 1999 Père Noël was a bit of a departure, with a very appealing yeasty tartness that was not readily discernible in earlier years.

Tap at C4, Odense. Pours clody golden coloured with a nice egg white and staying head. Beautiful beer. Aromas of grass, grapefruit, oranges, lemons and some brett. Dry and hoppy flavour with notes of spices, malt and a touch of brett. Delicious brew!

Bottle 330 ml. Clear copper-amber with a large but quickly diminishing beige head. Some lacing. Aroma of spices (cinnamon, coriander), malt, candy sugar and belgian yeast. Flavor of spices (cinnamon, coriander) and malt. Dry and bitter finish. Maybe a tad too bitter for the style.

11.2oz bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a cloudy off-orange with minimal head. Aroma of spicy yeast and some citrus hops. Taste is light bitter. Spicy yeast and citrus hops. Medium bodied with a relatively sticky texture. Lively carbonation and a decently long finish. Overall, not bad. I wouldn’t seek it out but I’ll enjoy this one.

750 ml bottle shared by dbsdelight- thanks, Dan! Dan bought this one in late 2005- the ’best by’ date is 11/2010 on the green paper wrapper. Pours a hazy, dull gold color with a small white ring for a head. The aroma is sweet and malty, with candi sugar, apricot, caramel, and also some dusty, musty funk. The flavor follows suit, with some sweetness, and even more musty and dry. The body has fallen out a bit and it shows its age for sure. Light-bodied, with low carbonation. I guess I’ll have to try a newer one, too.

Bottle@Home. Not much aroma, some citrus. Light hazy, yellow, off-white head, good lace. Light citrus, very dry, very harsh medicinal bitterness.

Bottle at the Anchor, Birmingham. Amber, with minor head. Very pleasant beer with light spiced flavour of ginger and clove. Tasty, tickly fizz and warm flavour. Good.

This was on-tap in Daisy’s (‘t Brugs Beertje) during December 2011, so I obviously had to have one and review it. Light copper/amber, almost orange coloured body, slight haze but not cloudy: on top an off-white topping. The nose was yeasty and semi-sour, with citrusy hops adding to the overall aromas. Dry and refreshing this is a spiced, fruity (apricots and oranges) beer: good balance of malt and hops and fairly complex and almost tangy because of its carbonisation. Different and interesting, not you usual Belgian Christmas beer that’s for sure.

Mmm! abbastanza emblematica. Odore di agrumi e di erba con un pizzico di fumo di caminetto. Amara, secca, speziata e anche nel gusto torna in sordina quel qualcosa di fumoso. Buona come tutte le birre di questo birrificio.

(750ml bottle) Courtesy of Dean of Lighthouse. Hoppy, sour and earthy aroma. Very tart, fruity, hopped and horse blanket - minor yeasty finish. Great. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPod; and powered by RateBeer.com, the world's largest and most accurate beer database.
