Saison de Dottignies is a high-fermenting saison with a relatively low alcohol content which makes for a well-balanced beer.

Taste: Full of taste, but very drinkable. Heavily-hopped and thirst-quenching - typical of saison-styled beers.

Hops: Challenger, Brewers Gold, Hallertau Mittelfrüh, Styrian Golding

330 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 5.5%. Golden colour, large white head. Pleasant fruity and mildly spicy aroma of saison yeast. Medium dry flavour, more spicy than fruity, with a distinct hoppy bitterness in the finish, nearly medicinal in the aftertaste.

Aroma is absolutely wonderful, fruity, citrus, malty. Appearance is gorgeous, good off-white foam with a lively but dull carbonation. Taste is hops, fruity spices, orange peel, a bit yest and hops leading to a finish of citrus and hops. Overall I find this too bitter for my liking.

Bottle. Slightly hazy orange color with big white head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is estery, floral hops, a bit lemony, hints of bubblegum. Taste is fresh, floral, wheat, dough, again a bit lemony, then towards the end some spices take over and the finish is dry, quite bitter, and spicy. Thirst-quenching, with a crisp carbonation. Saison like it should be - refreshing, subtle, but still complex. Nicely balanced as well, although the finish is on the rather spicy side. I like it a lot.

330ml bottle. Slightly hazy amber color. Small size, beige head, stays. Sweetish, bready, touch of yeast, faint minerals and fruity peach in aroma. Citrusy hops, straw, bit of yeast, oranges in taste. Soft crisp mouthfeel. Spicy hops with some hay in aftertaste. Dry palate. No mambo-jambo in this one. Saison as it should be.

Pours a slightly orange, hazy gold color with dense, yet soft white head. An aroma of cotton candy fills the air upon pouring into a glass. Further spice aromas show up on a closer sniff. Big bitterness and some astringency up front which seems as if it’s from a high mineral content water rather than the hops. Spice flavors then come in before the bitterness knocks everything else out of the way for the dry, long, bitter finish. This would likely pair well with fried foods. Aroma and flavor are fantastic save for the excessive bitterness which kills the rest of the experience.

Saison De Dottignies has a thin, white head, a murky, bright gold-orange appearance, noticeable beige yeast chunks roiling about, and almost no lacing left on the glass. Once the bottom, caked sediment is swished loose and poured in, the beer takes on a juice look (think of apricot juice). The aroma is of peach cobbler, sweet bread, sourdough bread, light caramel candy, and honey biscuits. Taste is the same, with some lower-level bitterness dancing about. There may also be nougat, mild nuts, and powdered sugar-covered beignets. Mouthfeel is high medium, and Saison De Dottignies finishes on the dry and drinkable side. Lovely stuff, but odd for the style. RJT

Sunburnt afternoon pour brings this fantastic saison. A lush finger of foam covers the hazy golden beer. Pepper spices, lemon peel, herbal flourishes, farmhouse funkadelic goodness. Dig that crazy champagne mouthfeel. Even more impressive is the super dry finish. After a week of saison explorations, this is a fine one to finish with. Highly recommended.

330 ml bottle at The Beers, Lyon. Light unclear golden orange color with white to off white head. Malty hoppy and yeasty aroma, citrusy fruity, dusty, spicy, light grassy. Sweet and bitter taste like aroma. Medium oily body with soft carbonation.
