MartinT (4241), Montreal, Quebec, Canada May 2, 2008 My Bottom Line:
Floral hops and banana esters bloom from the bready yeast, as an atypical spicing (usually reserved for dessert beers) garnishes this fluffy pastry of a blond Belgian Ale.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam covers the cloudy orangey golden.
-Few hops decorate the finish; it’s mostly malt and yeast here.
-The body is cushiony and well built; one of the beer’s finest features.
-This is very drinkable and balanced throughout.
Bottle; best before Feb.’09.
Glouglouburp (1829), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jun 9, 2008 In short: A full bodied fruity, spicy and dry Belgian blonde Ale. Enjoyable but nothing
How: Bottle 330ml, about 6 months old
The look: Cloudy golden yellow with a medium white head
In long: Fruitiness level is average for a Belgian Ale of that nature. The fruity flavours in this one are bananas, some tropical fruits and some orange peels. Medium sweetness with a honeyed hard-candies. Lots of crunchy biscuits. Aromatic spicy floral hops that dry-out the beer a lot but do not provide much bitterness. And overall impression of some kind of spicy strudel. Overall this is a simple old-fashion pleasant Belgian blonde ale. With all those trendy breweries doing wacky beers and going off the beaten-path this one may seem simple and old-fashion. Sometimes new and modern is good, but sometimes you don’t microwave a chicken in three minutes. Sometimes you need to open a door, a for that you need a doorknob.
