jerc (3035), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 9, 2008 2008-05-08. Brown body with a modest beige head (3+). Sweet aroma of caramel or brown sugar soaked malt, dark fruit. Sweet flavour with lots of the dark fruit hinted at in the aroma. Sweet sugary undertones. Average plus palate. (3+) Pleasant and quite drinkable, but does not distinguish itself a whole lot from many other similar Belgian brews. Bottle courtesy of trade with Boutip
scotty (716), Scotland Jul 5, 2008 A Ronnie beer. Slightly hazy, minimal head. Nice nose of crystal malt and sultanas, fairly full in body, with a remarkably clean palate, a bit on the sweet side, but I expected that. Cant say there’s much more to it, it’s not a bad brew, but it’s not a classic in my book. I’d certainly have it again, but as it’s an R.B. that’s gonna be unlikely! Ughsmash (2773), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Apr 3, 2008 Bottled, BB 03/09. Poured rather clear reddish-copper with a well-formed cap of yellowy-beige head. The aroma picked up dusty banana and peppery yeast paired with sweet toffee, caramel, and a hint of chocolate.. soft impression that was entirely pleasant. The flavor was more geared toward the caramel, with dry toffee, floral notes, and herbs joining the uber-dry, dusty finish.. nice balance in here. Dry and medium-bodied on the palate, with OK balance.. a touch of sourness right at the end. Solid stuff. Rastacouere (5189), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Mar 24, 2008 Objectively speaking:
A sweet and musty dubbel that takes drinkability seriously.
I like:
Efficient palate: engaging carbonation, medium-bodied, still quite drinkable. Managed to feel complex enough despite its low ABV. Pleasant spicy yeastiness (anise, pepper). Adequately fruity, berry-like yet with a fair powdery chocolate impression. Its complexity remains in subtlety.
I dislike:
The acetaldehyde from the aroma. No shining feature - a bit shy all throughout and finishing quickly. beerbuzzmontreal (2660), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Mar 15, 2008 Pours a reddish brown color with cranberry red highlights and a thin tan head. Aroma of berries, malt, sweetness, liquorice and spices. Good flavor of spices, liquorice, berries, malt and mild lingering sweetness. The body is light with a creamy texture and medium carbonation. It’s very interesting, it reminds me of Pannepot but not at the same quality level, this beer needs more body to move closer to excellence.
