3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 marcus (4054) - Sacramento, California, USA - FEB 15, 2005
Consumed at Kulminator Cafe in Antwerp, 2002 bottle. This pale ale poured with a massive white head that dissipated quickly. The color is darker than most pale ales. Mellow flavor, medium body, high carbonation, with a slightly bitter finish.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 sayravai (4548) - Helsinki, FINLAND - JAN 31, 2005
(Bottled, 0.75l) Opaque, medium-brown color with a medium head. Dryish, ashtray aroma with fruity-bananaish hints, and some sweetish caramel. Slightly toffeeish-caramely-sweet and sourish, fruity flavor. Medium-bodied, sourish and quite carbonated palate. Not a very memorable, but quite bearable brew.
2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 Ungstrup (23961) - Oamaru, NEW ZEALAND - MAY 9, 2004
[ZBF 2004] An amber beer with a beige collapsing head. The aroma is sweet malty with slight notes of caramel. The flavor is thin and watery with notes of caramel and roasted bread. It is slightly bitter and slightly sour.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 jbrus (4990) - Delft, NETHERLANDS - FEB 28, 2004
Bottled, which is the best for de Ryck beers. Light hoppy aroma. Hazy, orange color, large beige head, very nice lace. Very light sweet, bit fruity, nice hops, light, light dry finish.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 JorisPPattyn (6728) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - SEP 4, 2003
(Bottled 75cl, somewhat aged sample) Colour: gushing to huge creamy, yellowish head, lively pearling. Flunky amber beer. Orangey nose. Very little oxidation. Aroma's of citrusleaf and a bit of hops. Rather neutral taste, some coloured malts, bit of candi sugar and again a citrussy flavour. Back of tongue yields some caramel. Warming up, the malt taste comes out more strongly. Light to medium bodied, quite dry. A bit sticky mouthfeel. Somehow the impression of alcohol is given - very strange for a 4.7% brew. I think the dryness has something to account for. The usual draught version doesn't have this feature. It is still best traditionally draught, but the bottles are better than expected - different somehow.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 rauchbier (3205) - Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, ENGLAND - SEP 1, 2003
Keg, GBBF2003. Amber, moderate head and condition. Aroma and flavour is dominated by peardrops, with a thin fruity edge in the mouth and a dry hoppy bitterness developing in the finish. Nothing speciale.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 pivo (2540) - GERMANY - AUG 26, 2003
TAP GBBF 2003: Starts good, but goes downhill. Nice spicy (cinnamon) complex fruity (pears) nose, gold-brownish color and low tight head. The taste is disappointing - weak malt body of orange tastes disappates quick into a finish with a nice spicy tinge.
