Thanks to Todd for coming through with a rarity older than some of the Crew!. Vintage 1981. Gross looking cork. Muddy flat pour. Aroma is dank, musty, old sponge. Funky, cardboard, cork, really weird old fruit taste and definitely gamey as stated by Jason

Test vom 30.5.2007, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 11,8,7,3,-,6 - 6,52

Hard to rate a beer like this past its prime. Most of the fruit was gone and the cork took over... some interesting last vestiges of something that might have been good at some time. Points for the adventure. Thanks, Todd.

Once again, OSCF comes with an ancient relic for our contemporary study - thanks, Todd! 1981 big bottle with an awesome space age cage (I can imagine it being smuggled out of East Germany at some point). Always an adventure with a beer this old, but it wasn’t too bad. Dingy pour of an indistinct color, fairly flat (no big surprise there). Nose was musty basement and slightly acetic. Flavor was . . . interesting. Gamey, corky, funk, the cured venison of beer.

Bottle. Sparse pink head over a hazy dark pink body. Sweet perfume like aroma of glace cherries, with a sour clove/woody acidic finish. Light to medium bodied.

1981 bottle shared by OSCF. Thanks for the opportunity, Todd! Everything about this beer was muddled, but it was still fun to drink the few ounces I could put down. Some mild fruity tartness, cardboard, some sweet and salty flavors, leather, must. Rather thin palate for the style. Would have liked to study this beer and let it warm up a little more before moving on, but so goes the tasting. Definitely the oldest lambic I have tried. An experience I hope to have again.

I believe this was a 1981 bottle. Lets just say it was past its prime. Way muddled and off.

Bottle 1981 shared to celebrate the birth of my first daughter Aia with Andreassen11 and Rødgaard, kindly traded by traPISSED - Thanks, your the man!! :) Removing the cork was quite a challenge as it was very brittle and crumpled when pulling the cork. Eventually the sealing was broken with a nice fizz and a nice very oaky and sour cherry aroma appeared. When pouring it gently a small white head appeared on top of a hazy to murky ruby-reddish body. Putting the nose into the glass also revealed some caramel sweetness along with notes of dry grape, dirt and a faint hint of must. The flavour is very dry simi-sour cherries and grape that intensifies and gets more sour closer to the bottom of the bottle. Some must, apples, oak and dirt notes is also present. Lovely complexity and balance, leaving a long sour after taste, unfortunately a bit to musty, but it not overwhelming. No traces of caramel sweetness or oxidation as expected. Thanks again Alan!
