3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
21 Oct 2012 in Valkenburg, Holland: Cafe De Grendelpoort is having a Bockfest and this was one of the brews on-tap.
Dark reby red in colour with a tan foaming head.
Sweet malty molasses rule the taste and smell as most Bocks do, this was slightly sweeter than most though and a bit thicker and stickier in the body. The beer becomes more interesting as it warms a little, dark fruit notes appear in the aroma and taste, caramel becomes detatched from the other malt flavours and a mild hoppiness pops up at the end of each sip.
I think I tried all the Bocks during the weekend and I enjoyed this one about the best.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle 330 ml at home, poured into a snifter. ABV 6.7%
Deep brown colour on the body, dark beige on the tall froathy head. Low retention, light lacing on the glass.
Aroma of dark chocolate, light vanilla and pleasant alcohol notes.
Nice taste, kind of nutty, again light alcohol notes that help bring the flavours upfront, sweet but just enough. Very good.
Thick body with good carbonation.
One of the better ones I’ve had this season.
