Where does this "2" score come from? There must be some technical issue with this beer rating. Anyway it pours as car oil black, minimal brown head. Aroma is straight to bourbon barrel and licorice. Taste adds vanilla and dark fruits. Low bitter finish. Quite good!

Pours black. Aroma and taste are sweet black licorice and not very enjoyable.

[6222-20140321] Bottle. Grainy smoky burnt taffy aroma has a bit of a roasted band-aid note. Black body with a medium-lasting brown body. Taffy molasses and roasted wood chocolate chips flavour. Full body. Really wonderful, but apparently a lot of the hops dropped out as itís an older bottle. (7/4/9-/4/16) 4.0

Draft - Dark roast and molasses. Deep brown with a very rich nice brown head. Tons of liquorice, molasses and dark bitter roast. Liquorice notes are very nice and add some great complexity. Quite nice.

Poured from the tap. Black with tan head. Mild roast malt with a bit of chocolate. Licorice and medicinal quality to it that adds sweetness along with a bit if molasses. This quality could put some people off as itís the dominant flavour, but itís not overbearing in my opinion. Medium body.

Finally got around to trying this. Pours black, with a mocha head that disappears quite quickly. Aroma is quite sweet, notes of anise, chocolate, cherry, vanilla...black forest cake? Tastes quite boozy, more anise and chocolate, and definitely molasses. This is a fairly hoppy stout. Good mouthfeel, though, it coats the mouth pretty well. This is better than last yearís offering.

UPDATED: MAY 10, 2015 2014 bottle, aged 1 year. Very dark. Deep rich burnt chocolate, deep fruits, alcohol. Sweet and molasses, chewy rich malts, good balanced impy. 4 8 7 4 16 = 3.9. I was told Iíd like it better after a year, and I did.
Fresh, 2014 bottle: Inky black with a medium brown head. Really fruity aroma, with lots if boozy bourbon character, and a lot of raw wood. The palate is all molasses, such a disconnect from the aroma. That molasses is just dominant. I donít think itís a great beer, but I like molasses so I like the beer.

2014-03-21. Black body with a nice brown head that fades. 3++ Aroma is alcoholic, dark roasty malt, cocoa notes. Flavour is similar, dark malt core, nice cocoa roast bitterness. Notes of molasses? Some green hoppy bitterness. Average plus to medium bodied palate, modest carbonation. Enjoyable, it has held up well. Bottle courtesy of GregClow close to a year old.

On tap at the Alibi Room, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out cloyingly sweet syrupy notes and light roast. Flavour is big and bold, thankfully without the syrupy quality of the nose, with notes of roasted malt, caramel, and a touch of cocoa. Highly roasted and caramely. Well-balanced and flavourful. Good stuff.
