3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 fiulijn (10383) - Como, ITALY - MAR 11, 2012
Bottle from Liberty Wine on W 10th, Vancouver Blond color, paler than your typical IPA. The aroma is strange, a bit fruity but also soapy. Lean body and lean flavor, that exalts the bold bitterness, resiny hops, although not very fruity (but the bottle may be a bit old). Thirst quencher.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 turboespresso (218) - Port Moody, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 8, 2012
Bottle. Different right from the start, the hop aroma is citric, but not in familiar way. This beer seriously looks like a pilsener. Decent palate. Thin head, but plenty of lace. It is plenty hoppy, but in a one dimensional way. Just bitterness. The malt body is thinner than most IPAs, so this one is a bit unbalanced, even among hoppy IPAs. Still enjoyable, but I like the Citra IPA much better.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Powertrip (841) - Calgary, Alberta, CANADA - FEB 13, 2012
Single bottle purchased from Zyn Liqour on 02/05/2012. Colour: Mix of light yellow and gold, with white outskirt head. Nose: Tickles of peach up front and then soft caramel. Nutty malt mixes well with light pine hops. Light egg hint pops up late. Taste: Medium-light sweet, medium bitter, light sour. An onslaught of bitterness. The palate regains control mid way and produces a delicate red liqourice malt, late the bitterness regains control and gains strength through finish. Decent, if not a little light in body aside from decent hop.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Vertical Bacon Strips (1698) - Asshat, Alberta, CANADA - FEB 9, 2012
Poured out a light yellow gold brew that is super clear and a big bright white cap that settles sown to a cover leaving ample lacing. IT’s got a bit of a different aroma but behind that initial dose there ain’t much, muchacho. Sweet candy, cotton candy maybe but it’s been years, cereal grains. Flavours also similar with a sharper citrus and hints of something orange popping out. Long bitterness, much better warmer than cellar temperature. Heavily carbonated. Good citrus on the finish. This beer took too long to interest me.
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 Crit (2841) - New Westminster, British Columbia, CANADA - FEB 1, 2012
Hazy gold, white head. Small bead.Spicy hop nose and fore.Medium bodied astringent hop profile is a bit odd. One dimensional
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 patricks110 (913) - Alberta, CANADA - JAN 29, 2012
I took a shot with this one because the Citra IPA was good. The pour is a light orange, yellow body with a thick, foamy white head that remains thick throughout. The nose has a prominent grainy aroma with a bit of toasty malts and a mild hop with some citrus. The taste is sweet and toasty with a bunch of fruity hops and a big bitterness on the finish. Surprising how hoppy this one actually is. Not resinous, but harshly bitter. This is an okay IPA, but completely out of whack with an unbalanced taste.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 DuffMan (4426) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - JAN 14, 2012
Bottle. Clear, very pale yellow, with a chalky giant white head that shows excellent retention. Aroma is more cereal and light toast than hops. Palate entry is crunchy pale malts (Mark said "Like old-school Cheerios"), lightly toasty, with soft fruit hop notes that barely lift their little head before an astringent bitterness rolls in. The bitterness is actually harsh and intrusive, lingering long after the swallow. Not awful, but completely out of balance. I think the starting choice of ingredients was just wrong here, not complimentary at all.
1.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20 Savvy1982 (1441) - Lethbridge, Alberta, CANADA - JAN 8, 2012
Bottle at home, from my Maudite glass. Pours clear pale gold, 1-finger white head, good lacing. Nose is spicy hops, some tropical fruit, something cheesy in there too, along with a certain bubblegum notes. Odd... Flavours of Spicy canteloupe and bizarre spicy hop-mess. This is really all over the place. Abort! ABORT!!!!!!!
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 reebtogi (2169) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - JAN 4, 2012
650ml bottle pours a clear pale golden color with a finger and a half of white head that settles down to leave some nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is mild citrus hops and a touch of cereal grains. Taste is light malty sweetness with a moderate lingering grapefruit finish. Light bodied with some decent carbonation. This is quite a nice IPA, I am really starting to enjoy this Dead Frog Brewmaster’s Series of beers.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 pintbypint (1610) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - JAN 3, 2012
650ml brown bottle. Pours out golden, clear. Small rocky white cap on top with some ok lacing in the glass. Nose has orange peels and light grapefruit notes. In the mouth the beer has a caramel malt backbone, fruity middle, light tropical notes. Finishes with a hit of grassy and citrusy hops, mid length bitterness. Medium body, decent carbonation. Overall, a decent IPA, pretty light and easy drinking with some nice tropical notes from the hops.
