COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
HUGE HOPS AND MASSIVE MALTS TEAM UP FOR A DEVASTATINGLY DELICIOUS THRILL RIDE

Sparks fly when bold & beautiful tropical hops meet a brazen & daring roasted malt base. Their chemistry is undeniable and perfectly balances the hop flavours and aromas of a powerhouse IPA with the depth and intricacy of a complex dark ale.

The creator of the Fearless IPA and Commander Imperial Stout pulls no punches with his newest masterpiece. Heís brought your taste buds to their knees with monstrous Imperial IPAs and made them sing with cavernously deep Imperial Brown Ales. Now he brings you his greatest triumph!

Malts: Pale Ale, Cara 60, Biscuit, Chocolate, Carafa II, Special B, Roast Barley
Hops: Centennial, Columbus, Galaxy
First batch: February 2014

Editorís note: also called Dawn of the Dead

Drinking from a 650ml bottle. In the aroma chipped wood, red fruit, banana, The unclear brown beer has a medium brown head. A full bodied, bitter taste, chocolate, roast malt. Low carbonated.

On tap at Oscarís Pub in Vancouver. Branded sleeve a bit similar to the bulbous shape of a Guinness glass. The handle doesnít say, and the barkeep offered that it was an ESB, but thereís just no way. A beautiful black beer. Generous tan head, sweet, malted nose. In the mouth itís noticeably hoppy, but rich roasted malts predominate. Sweet chocolate, licorice and bitter coffee overtones. All the richness of an impy stout, but with much more hop load. One of the best black IPAs ever! 3.8.

Draught @ Alibi Room, Vancouver, BC

Pours dark brown, almost black with a smooth head. Aroma of roasty malts, grassy hops, coffee, dark chocolate and licorice. Taste is roasty, sweetish and grassy hoppy with some coffee, licorice and dark chocolate. Finish is smooth, hoppy and roasty with some licorice. Quite tasty black IPA.

Strong roasty nose with a minor bitter chocolate background. Flavour is very bitter, some toasted malt and cocoa powder. Lasting hop finish. Decent.

650mL bottle, pours black with a medium beige / tan head. Aroma is quite chalky, with notes of roast, dry cocoa, and some piney hops. Flavour is really wonderful, with notes of roasted malt, dry cocoa, and lots of dry piney hops. Really dry and balanced amazingly well between the roast and hops. Wow, Dead Frog brewed an excellent one here. Fantastic.

Lagerboy (1214) - British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 5, 2014
Bomber. Clear darkest crimson brown, slight ruby hue, darker tan foam mostly fades. Big bold dark roasted malt taste, not too sweet, some caramel, balanced nicely with tropical fruity citrusy hops, slightly floral, some spicy herbalness. Average carbonation, medium-full bodied, well hopped. Lightly bitter, dry roasty finish. Pretty damn good, but still: NFL (Not For Lagerboys)

650 ml bottle. Pours a very dark brown with moderate head of big bubbles. Aromas of fruity grape jelly, light pine, and toasted malts. Flavors of roasted malts, mangos, dark fruit, and pine. Bitter finish. A nice black IPA.

Dark brown body. The aroma has a mango-citrus hop character, and toasty dark malt notes. Rich, rounded bitterness, but also a lot of malt sweetness especially from the Belgian stuff. The roast barley is quite apparent, particularly in the finish. The bright citrus and fruit of the aroma takes a back seat on the palate. Rich, hearty bitterness, smooth body...a blast of Black IPA goodness, quite intense for lovers of the style. Like me.
