Our Winter Beeracle is a warm, deep mahogany ale with rich, complex malt flavours and a sweetness to compliment the season. The warmth of the beer is punctuated by deep malt flavours from chocolate malts, a hint of vanilla in the aroma and flavour, and a dry citrus finish. All the flavours come together to create a rich, delicious winter ale.

This beer is a brand new recipe for Dead Frog Brewery and it will be replacing the previous ’Christmas Beeracle’ that we had as our Winter Ale.

Ingredients: Water, malted barley, hops, yeast, vanilla extract, orange peel
Malts: 2 Row, Biscuit, Cara 60, Chocolate
Hops: Cascade, Perle

First batch: November 2012

Drinking from a 650 cl bottle. In the aroma chocolate, mocca and alcohol. The clear brown beer has a small brown head. In the taste coffee and chocolate. Medium carbonated.

Has a thin head with kind of a dark lager body that’s got modest carbonation. Aroma is caramel and syrup, some ginger spice. Flavour is a heavy smoked feel with notes of hazelnut with slight spice finish, hints of swamp. Kind of cloying mouthfeel. Just about average for a darker seasonal brew.

On tap at St. Augustine’s, pours a deep dark amber-tinged brown with a small tan head. Aroma brings out lots of chocolate, with notes of cinnamon further back. Flavour is surprisingly nice, with loads of sweetened chocolate dominating. Not getting a whole lot else of the other spices in here. Kind of a cheap gimmicky beer, but I think this is done very well. Enjoyable fun beer.

Bottle - Toast and cocoa with some light vanilla and nut. Deep clear mahogany with a decent beige head. Dark malts, nutty and some cocoa. Decent, but nothing particularly special.

Dark brown., sweetish and vanilla. I mean it really smells awful: thin nuttiness and overblown vanilla. It’s all vanilla in this and I just can’t do that.

Visual: Who here has tried licking a steel street post in the middle of winter? (Fyi don’t do it...) Pours beer bottle brown with barely any head, thin ringed retention, several slow streams, minor lacing. Nose: lots of vanilla (extract) and sweet malts. (lvl-7)-pungency Attack: crisp, vanilla malts Mid-palate: fizzy-crisp, (lvl-7) malty sweetness, underlying citrus acidity, (MAIN) huge vanilla extract, caramel malts, minor citrus oils, sweet chocolate Finish: lingering vanilla, malty bright sweet, subtle soft hopped finish Summary: This is an unexpectedly delicious, brew. It is quite aggressive with the vanilla flavouring but works out well with the orange and sweet malts to balance it out. Recommended to try at least once.

[5213-20130412] Big bottle. Marshmallow vanilla bubblegum maple aroma. Clear, dark red amber body with a medium-lasting foamy light tan head. Sweet roasted marshmallow and vanilla-infused toasted malt flavour. Medium-full body. Weird at first, huge marshmallow brûlée notes. (7/3/6/3/13) 3.2

Bottle from Boundary Crossing, Vancouver
Mahogany color, hazy, with small head. Aroma of cheap chocolate and Christmas spices. Good body strength; the flavor of cheap chocolate, vanilla and spices is even stronger; it has a mild minty/herbal touch, and the final bitterness is vegetable, chicory, rather disturbing. Some alcohol warmth.
Not very pleasant.

stantheman (904) - British Columbia, CANADA - DEC 26, 2013
A 650 ml bomber from Liquor Barn in North Burnaby. A deep brown ale with moderate tan head. Caramel on the nose. Very syrupy sweet caramel and chocolate on the palate. Too sweet for this guy.

   AROMA 7/10   APPEARANCE 2/5   TASTE 6/10   PALATE 3/5   OVERALL 13/20
Radek Kliber (7165) - Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), POLAND - MAY 3, 2013
Bottle 650 ml
Aroma strong hints of candy sugar, vanilla, some toffee. Aromatic soft top end.
Appearance light brown, garnet with dark amber. Lighter tanned fine top. Rather flat looking over all. 2+
Flavor and Palate : strong sweet candy like sweetness up front. Mild carbonation on medium body. Hint of burnt like caramelized sugars on sides. Some spice hints at finish.
