Dead Man’s Hand is our interpretation of the Russian Imperial Stout style. For the coming years, we plan to brew several versions of this beer.

Bottle from Rehills, Newcastle. An inky black beer that pours with no head. It has a sweet liquorice and white wine flavour an oily mouthfeel followed by oak, vanilla and more tart wine and sherry flavours on the warming extremely dry finish. Nice!

33cl bottle from Firmabier, if I remember correctly. 26/09/2016. Pours pitch black with an one finger thick espresso head. Wine barrel noticeable straight away, but not intruding. Licoricy, roasted malty, slight sourness. Flavor has sour wood, licorice, roasted malt, slight tartness. No sign of the alcohol. Sweeter finish, but the wine/barrel notes makes it feel more sour than sweet. Nice sipper. Quite fond of the wine notes actually.

Bottle from JefVerstraete, thanks! That one gets extra points for its fluffy, rock-solid head. Slightly overcarbonated, as expected, which albeit goes well with the strong vinous character of this beer. Notes of red wine and wood dominate initially, complemented by a light spicy phenolic touch. As the beer warms, its stout character comes to the fore, with chocolate wafers, raisins, caramel. Its light tartness is balanced by a full body and malty notes of dark chocolate and caramel. Medium strong, chocolatey bitterness. Very vinous imperial stout, but I liked it all the more because of that.

From tap. Pours hazy dark brown to black with a small tan head. Aroma is toffee caramelish and light breadish. Sweet, roasted, light liqourice and roasted dark malty. Bitter and dry. Slight herbal finish.

Assaggio da 100ml allo Zythos Beer Festival 2015: Stout dal colore nero impenetrabile. Aromi di prugna, uva e cioccolato al latte. In bocca è moderatamente dolce punteggiata di amaro. Finale lunghissimo e corpo pieno. Una birra onesta!

Better as expected, even enjoyed this one while drinking. But to buy it again, I’m not convinced totally...

(draught) clear deep ruby-brown colour with creamy beige head. aroma of melted butter and toasted malts, with a light hint of cherry stones, some sugar icing and nettles. flavour is mostly roasted malts, cherries and oak, with more butter, some vanilla, coconut, raisins and a light-bitter herbal-hoppy finish. medium- to heavy-bodied with average carbonation.

330ml bottle (HBF2015). Dark brown color. Medium size, brown head, stays. Vinegar, faint roast, grainy notes in aroma. Sour, cherry, grainy, malty taste. Cherry and red currant in aftertaste. Medium carbonation. Rough woody bitterness. At least it looks good.
