Aroma: resin, citrus. Appearance: golden to amber with a white head that quickly dissapates to a lingering thin film. Taste: very bitter, light sweetness. Palate: medium body, lively, long bitter finish. Overall: an enjoyable beer great on a hot or cold day or anythng in between.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 jimthechap (800) - Christchurch, NEW ZEALAND - DEC 19, 2011
Tasted off tap at Cassel’s and Sons The Brewery. The first and most striking thing is the colour. Shy of digging out the Dulux colour chart, it’s a lustrous yellow-gold and despite the head fading into the glass in short time, it is a good looking pint. The aromas are of tropical fruit, dehydrated papaya and a nod to spruce cones. The aroma draws you in, which is all you can ask for. Flavours dwell mainly on those fruits and pine resin flavours and there’s a full ’someone just stuck a skewer through the sides of my tongue’ bitterness - not dangerously overwhelming like a lot of West Coast IPAs, but it’s definite, it’s there and it’s enduring. The finish is long lasting and certainly invites another pint... which it did. An extremely enjoyable pint from start to finish.
