What a great expectations I had when I found this beer. Another beer from the Vleteren area close to Ieper in Belgium (I guess everyone have heard about the great Westvleteren). Unfortunately it’s not like the West neighbours. Yeasty and fruity nose and the flavor is fruity and quite alcoholic.

Bottled (Red cap). Very murky dark brown colour, with big beigeish brown foamy head. Aroma of malts, fruits and some alcohol. Also a bit plum. Flavour is enormously plummy with some other fruits and alcohol. A bit roasted/smoked notes also. Wellbalanced, and quite easy to drink. Some yeast coming in also, as it gets a bit warmer. A very good beer, both for "easydrinking" as well as for an evening you just want to have one or two and chat away.

UPDATED: JUN 22, 2006 At Deca Brewery in Woesten-Vleteren: poured brown with a beige head. Mild malt aroma with some dark fruit. Lightly sweet. Flavor is malt and dark fruit. Mild roastiness. Good beer I think.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
This beer has a pale body - hue apperance and a coarse white scum collar. I have drunk the beer from the bottle and it had a lot carbonic acid. The initial flavor taste is very sweet with a light bitter afther tast.

At Kulminator, Dark brown colour, average white head. Heavy and sweet aroma, some madeirisation. Full body, Finish is light sweet with some touches of madeira, light bitter near the end. Not bad.

Pour is murky murky ugly brown with a tight bubbled off white head...smell is meat, figs, plums, leather, tobacco...maybe chocolate...taste is earthy and almost chewy...earth fruits, yeast, bitterness, nuts...I can’t say it was great, nor can I say it is bad...I just don’t know...

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Yeasty nose with a hint of syrup, murky pale gold color, sticky low head. Honey malt tastes, cashew nuttiness. Bit bitter end that lingers. Think body, rich and lush. Interesting brew - big and flavorful. I liked this one.

Murky brown-orange color. Small fast diminishing head. Intense yeast and ripe banana nose. Very intense malt, caramel and almond taste - lot’s of tabacco. Long lasting with a smokey finished. I liked it a lot!

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Very hazy brown-orange color and small bubbely beige foam. Sweet nutty maltyness, touches of speculoos and some smooth nutty accents. Also dry caramelly hints in the taste ending with a fresh bitterness of hops.
