It’s no secret, at DEBC, we’re fond of hops. Citrusy, piney, floral, and fruity hops are at least a third of this whole adventure. Hops may be the current ruler of the craft beer scene, and we, for one, welcome our resinous, spicy, bitter overlords. We’ve taken the IPA category to its Event Horizon, and pulled back just enough to see the edge. Get the big picture, it’s hoppy! Hops - Summit, Columbus, Apollo, Liberty, and more! Malts - Pale ale, Vienna, Honey (NB previous versions contained rye) Yeast - English Ale Other - Raw cane sugar

On tap. Pours with a clear golden hued body with a small white head. Aromas are dank, citrusy, spicy, herbal. A little bit of sweet marmalade, a touch sticky and boozy. Flavors are sweet, a bit boozy, floral, pine and sticky resins. A touch fusel. Earthy hop character, a touch spicy, pine. Lively carbonation but a sticky mouthfeel.

Appearance: hazy pale amber with two fingers of fluffy ivory head, good retention and lacing. (4/5) Aroma: dank resiny pine, juicy citrus, tropical fruit, pale malt. (7/10) Taste: moderate sweet, strong bitter. (7/10) Palate: medium slightly oily body, moderate carbonation, off-dry bitter and mildly warming finish. (3/5) Makes a bold announcement on opening, with strong resiny hop aromas filling the room. And for the first half of the beer, it continues to deliver a powerful hop assault, with a one-two punch of piney resin and so much juicy citrus one might believe there’s actually tangerines in there. As the head dissipates, however, the hop aromas seem to fade with it, and the sweet malty backbone starts to show through. It never gets unpleasant, or even malt-forward, but it does lose a little steam. The finish remains strongly bitter, though, and the relatively high ABV is well-managed, manifesting as a mild warming. This is a whole bunch of fun, but I think you might need to drink ‘em fast for maximum enjoyment. (14/20)

Fairly citrus hop aroma. Some floral. Pours copper and cloudy. Lots of hop flavor. Enough bitter to offset the malt back bone. Body is super carbed, probably over. Good hop complexity. A big beer.

Can pour lightly hazy dark gold with orange hue and moderate white head. Nose grassy, resin, tropical fruit. Taste moderate bitter bite up front, then grass, resin, and grapefruit. Light bitter finish. More bitter than sweet. Reasonable hop flavors.

(En fût au East Side Social Club): Je pense immédiatement à Alpine avec des sucres un peu moins atténués. L’aspect protéiné du corps céréalier et l’équilibre jus/résine est réussi.

Sampled at GABF 2015. In the taster glass was cloudy and orange. White foam on top. Nose of tropical fruit including pineapple and citrus. Some pine maybe. Medium plus body and resinous mouth feel. Flavor is big on hops and all the flavors are there that was in the aroma. Bitter floral and citrus finish. Good stuff.

Sample at SBWF 2015. Hoppy and malty smell. Similar taste. The malt base had that nice sweet sugare cake taste that I like. Nice and hoppy.

Sample@SBWF2015. Grape och ananas i en bra blandning. I smaken är den t juice-ig av tropiska frukter. Bra munfyllnad och med stor men inte dominerande maltkropp.

Nice, rich copper coloured body with a thinnish cream head, about a centimetre tall. Aroma of deep piney and tropical fruit hops with a big malt backbone and noticeable alcohol. Full-bodied; Very deep and assertive malt with some metal showing through and a very acidic quality then turning a bit citrusey with some light sweetness, but not much complexity at all with this one. Aftertaste is relatively simple with the pine, malt and alcohol the only thing really noticeable, and none of them shine through in any great way. Overall, a decent Imperial IPA at best - some citrus and pine around the edges, but relatively simple and uninspired, but nice to have in a can. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Spec’s in Dallas, Texas on 01-September-2015 for US$2,83 sampled at home in Washington on 25-September-2015. My can displays 8,5% abv, not the aforementioned 9,3%.
