Our year round ode to the Pacific Northwest hop. At DEBC, we like hops, but we like American hops most of all. Here we use some of our absolute favorites. However, they might not be used like you may expect, by using varieties with high alpha acid contents (which means more potential for bitterness) and using them in ways to emphasize the flavor and aroma we can render a rather bitter ale with over the top tropical fruit, citrus, pine, floral, and more hop derived aroma and flavor. Style: American-style India Pale Ale Hops: Citra, Amarillo, Chinook, Palisade, and Summit Malts: Pale Ale, Vienna, Honey, and White Wheat Yeast: English Ale

Draft at the Flying Saucer This was enjoyed at a local bar in Ft Worth. The bartender Homer recomended the Deep Ellum IPA. The ale poured a cloudy light amber with a medium off-white head that slowly dissipated. Some lacing down the glass. This is well brewed ale. Some hops and malt on the nose. This is a medium bodied ale with flavors of resiny hops, The carbonation was average. The finish was smooth with some bitterness on the tongue.

Bottle:   Dirty amber, large foamy white head, spotty lacing.   Sweet hoppy nose, citrusy, but also a little dusty.   I have my concerns that with this head this one may be bust.   Citrusy hops up front, lots of powdery sugar flavors on the backside.   Lots of pine, and perhaps even pineapple.   Its sweet, hoppy, and lots of citrus notes.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate, albiet very airy/spritzy.   Finishes smooth, but with lots of that powdery fake sugary sweetness.   I need another to re-rate as perhaps I sat on this too long.   When I poured it the glass was overflowing with foam.   Thanks Bill!

Golden color out of the can, and it would have been clearer but I can see the sediment in a can. Fresh sweet citrus and tropical fruit hop nose. This is a really juicy IPA with lots of candied orange, red grapefruit, tropical fruit and some pine, with some honey sweetness and homemade bread. Nice IPA.

12oz Can, from Secret Santa 2013 summer, Thanks. No date on the can, no idea how old it is, with the hops listed on the can I should have loved this but alas it tasted stale and malty with no punch.. Amarillo and Citra.. coulda been a contender.

On tap at Kung Fu in Dallas. Pour is clear orange with a big white head and great lacing. Sweet tropical fruity, grapefruity, orange peel, doughy, somewhat floral, vallina, and grassy aroma. Taste is sweet fruity, pineapple, mango, grapefruit, caramel, bread, and orange peel with a medium bitter finish. Medium mouthfeel with medium-to-soft carbonation. Super fruity and tropical. I dig it.

On tap at Flying Saucer Fort Worth. I have always lived this IPA, no idea how I haven't rated it yet. It's fairly mild, a little sweet. Still a fantastic beer.

Pours a hazy honey amber with a fairly thick, pale golden tan, fine-bubbled head. Strong aroma is quite hoppy with a fruity undertone that is equal parts citrus and apple/pear and has more than a hint of hay. Flavor is muy hoppy, evergreen and woody, somewhat bitter, subtly citrus and pomme fruity. Firm texture is fairly fizzy and leaves a hoppy, fruity finish. Never mind oil - strike this!

Extra from Errl-thanks, Chris! Deep orange with a slow fading finger thick head and lots of lacing. Nose is fairly flat with a bit of earthiness and orange. Pretty malty full body with some orange, red clay earth, and a long bitter finish with a lot of cereal/biscuit....what came to mind was when you have Corn Pops and there are little ones in the box that get over-toasted? Yeah, like that. Quite an odd little beer.
