Our year round ode to the Pacific Northwest hop. At DEBC, we like hops, but we like American hops most of all. Here we use some of our absolute favorites. However, they might not be used like you may expect, by using varieties with high alpha acid contents (which means more potential for bitterness) and using them in ways to emphasize the flavor and aroma we can render a rather bitter ale with over the top tropical fruit, citrus, pine, floral, and more hop derived aroma and flavor. Style: American-style India Pale Ale Hops: Citra, Amarillo, Chinook, Palisade, and Summit Malts: Pale Ale, Vienna, Honey, and White Wheat Yeast: English Ale

Shared at the January 2014 tasting in Santa Cruz. Musty pine aroma. Herbal and grapefruit flavor, dense hops and a more English malt character with toffee and iced tea.

Pleasant citrus and floral hop aroma and flavors with an appropriately balanced malt bill. Nice beer, glad to see some good craft beer coming out of the Dallas area

Tap at anvil pub in deep ellum pours bright orange with lite haze and a small soapy white head. Nose is floral honeysuckle lots of citrus very sweet and flowery. Flavors of sweet citrus crisp malt lots of grapefruit and tangerine. Very citric forward. Not much malt to speak of here just lite pale grains. Lingering grapefruit on the finish. Pretty straight forward but tasty!

The beer is burnt orange and clear with an inch of dense, off-white head. The aroma brings pine, hops, some grapefruit, citrus rind. The usual suspects. Hop bitterness throughout. Lingering spice and pine notes. Hop forward but balanced with spicy grains. Solid.

UPDATED: MAR 30, 2014 Definitely piney in aroma and taste. Sharp bitter hops and strong resin in the after-taste. Malt is subdued. Lots of floaties in the pour. Decent head retention and lacing. Strong offering from Deep Ellum.

UPDATED: APR 2, 2016 PREVIOUS RATING Can. Pours orange with a nice cream head but marred by tons of floaties. On the citrus end of the IPA spectrum. Pretty tasty if you don’t look at it. Current rating: Now that I live in Texas this is the ubiquitous craft beer in most restaurants and I rather like it. Have not seen the "floaties" since, and it is a very solid drinker that never disappoints.

Not my particular favorite variety of hops chosen in this beer but this is definitely an improvement over the example I tasted early last summer. Combination of hops can kind of give off am unpleasant aroma to some. But overall a good local IPA.

Can enjoyed in Austin. Nose nice pine, mango, cat, and underlying sweetness. Taste early grapefruit bite and then similar to nose. Earl y palate sweetness and fruity hop. Nice use of aromatics. Pleasing bitter finish.
