Well... itís been a long day and what a better way to reward myself for making it through the day than by indulging in a barleywine? Letís feel comfortably numb. Murky garnet brown in color with a dense light brown head, it smells rich and sweet, malt to the extreme, with fruity, almost estery English-style aroma (thanks to some English yeast) that starts to scream Old Ale or English Barleywine. Once in the mouth some grainy, fibrous, wet wood surfaces, followed by a sweet, rich, dense alcohol and malt flavor with concentrated raisins. I canít believe how wonderfully perfect this beer is. Itís in-league style-wise with Anchor Old Foghorn, but much smoother and well-flavored. Congratulations, Deep Ellum... youíve managed to continue your streak of surprising me. It finishes almost with a feeling of crystallized alcohol and caramel malts, topped with a faint touch of earthy, resinous hops. I canít believe how good this beer is. This is the kind of beer that Iíd gladly wait a week to drink.

On tap at Petrol Station. Pours a clear amber with medium beige head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is roasted malt raisin and caramel. Medium mouthfeel with sweet roasted malt, chocolate and sweet finish. Very impressive.

On tap at Jack Macís. Brown with a tan head. The aroma is full of brown sugar and caramel malt. The flavor is more complex. I get a lot of sweet brown sugar and caramel malt up front. As the beer warms the oak and rye whiskey notes come through lightly, along with some resinous pine character. Fairly sweet overall. Thick mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Very nice.

On tap at WF, amber color with tall tan foam, excellent aroma, flavor has great depth with cognac, malty raisin, brown sugar, caramel, frangelica, great barleywine

Brown beer, tan head that lasts for the drink. Aromas are earthy mineral and grass. Taste is totally different. Deep molasses and woodiness dominate the flavor while sinus opening alcohol rounds out the palate. All this in spite of this brew being incredibly smooth.
