Sticke-style Altbier brewed using heated stones. We rock it old school. How old school? Try the stone age. Steinbier brewing not only predates the invention of the thermometer, but goes so far back that there was no material available for fashioning brewing vessels that would not ignite when brought to flame. So the heat was brought from the fire with stones. Knowing how many and of what size to add and when was much of the early brewers’ alchemy. But with progress we lost the smoky caramelized character brought by those wood fired rocks of old, but no more. We’ve added crazy hot granite to our Dusseldorf-style Sticke Altbier just to make it rock that much harder. Style: Sticke Altbier Hops: Magnum, Northern Brewer, Mt. Hood Malts: Pilsner, Light Munich, Dark Munich, Extra Dark, Crystal, Smoked, Dehusked Chocolate Yeast: California Lager

Pours an orangish color with off-white head. Caramel malt and not much else on the nose; same on the palate. I think they missed the boat on this one.

On tap at the Deep Ellum First Anniversary Party. The beer pours a brown color with a white head. The aroma is classic German lager, with some toffee and biscuit malt. The flavor is about what I expected. I get a lot of clean malt notes, as well as a lightest hint of grapes. There caramel and toffee notes are what comes through the strongest, as well as a hint of grass and earth. Medium carbonation and thin mouthfeel.

Pint glass at DH- served a transparent orange with shades of copper in color. White ring around the glass for a head- aroma of autumn leaves, cooler weather, and Texahhtuckys- uh oh! Hits the mouth with a light medium body, malt has only a hint of caramel, weird lacquer/yeast/mint sensation in the middle, finish was written in the notebook as "Texughtucky Meh and FUCKING ’EH!". Texughtucky Meh, works for me.

Tap @ Hay Merchant. A little smoky, a little sweet, a little spicy. Great balance and finishes on a nice bitter note. This does indeed rock!
