Deep brown pour with a ruby hue, beige head and sticky lacing .... Aroma of caramel and roasted malts and light citrusy hops .... Taste is of mostly roasted malts, dark chocolate, caramel malts and some citrusy bitter hop bite .... More roasted flavors than anything .... Has a lingering bitter hoppy and roasted malt finish ... Mouthfeel is slightly oily ... Decent stuff

Serving: Can. It pours a very dark brown with a thin, light tan head. Robust nose with notes of pine and a slight roastiness. Medium to full bodied with a solid hop bite. Pine resin, roasted malt, and a little earth. It strikes me as more of a porter than a black IPA. But then a black IPA is a porter, isn’t it.

Guest draft at Fortnight. Bartender said that they swapped a kegs, which is kind of a cool way to do things! Really nice looking beer. Black with a robes off-white head. Not a ton going on in the nose - a little pine and resin. Taste is really nice. Malty, sweet, fading into pine, citrus hops and a nice bitter finish. Not the hop pine bomb I was expecting from the Black IPA style (or Cascadian Dark Ale or whatever the hell you want to call it). Very nice.

Sampled at GABF 2013. Pours a watery black with some beige head. Nose is insane, tropical fruit, pine, malt, light bread crust, white grape. Flavor also has quite a bit of tropical fruit, candy, orange. Clean, piney finish. Very nice. Drinkable. Solid for the style.

On tap at Tyler’s, Apex. Fu-schnickens, this was not so good. Sludgy motor oil pour, perfunctory one-finger head, and a nose of strong wet coffee grounds. Mouthfeel was okay, if a bit heavy. But one-dimensional bitterness all the way through, not so good.

Dark black pour with one finger of chestnut brown head. Weird nose/flavor. I get this sometimes with hoppy beers. Comes across as soapy/chemically character. Very difficult for me to describe and to consume after I taste that character. Medium full body.

Tap at beer study. Poopy dark brown with hardly any head. Nose is light goat, chemicals, cleaning products, roast. Similar flavor-- tough to drink. Down the drain.

Growler. Pours a near-black color with a fairly small tan head. Nose is very roasty and smells more like a roasty stout than a Black IPA. Taste is also very roasty, but has just a hint of bitterness in there. A little light on the hoppiness for me for the style, but still a pleasant drink.
