Tap. The look is dark, black in color, creamy tan head. The smell is roast, hops, dirt, cocoa, ok. The taste is the same. Blah blah blah.

Deep toasty coffee notes mingle seemlessly with resiny piny hop notes. Pours a deep dark brown with swaths of runny Belgian lace. One of the better black IPAs. Long black coffee pine and resin finish

Sample at Hoof Hearted during the Dragonsaddle Triple IPA Can Release on 11/15/2015. The beer pours a dark brown color with a medium tan head that recedes steadily to a film. Short strings of lacing. Aroma of roast malt, hops and pine. Medium body with flavors of roasted malt, resiny hops and a touch of chocolate. The finish is malty up front with a short hoppy aftertaste. Decent overall.

Couple of pints on tap. Opaque with a lasting disc of cream on top. Nose is espresso, chocolate, evergreen resin and a whiff of citrus. Tastes of the same mix. Near-medium body has a smooth medium carbonation and a drinkable balance.

16oz can, thanks to aabean for sharing. Bottom of can reads 020615. Dark brown color. Thin off-white head. Ropes and bits of lace. Roasty, toasty malt. Somer caramel, mild pine, spice. Moderate-plus bitter taste, moderate sweet. Mild bite; astringency. Medium body. Kind of crisp, lighter carbonation. Mild slick texture. OK, not great. Probably much past it’s prime... Would be more interesting to try fresh. Bit of soy sauce, and touch of oxidization in the nose.

10/5/15. Pint can. Challenging order: create a DIPA with lots of dark malts. Nice head with lots of lacing. Hit with a huge nose of piney hops as I open the can. Mouthfeel is a bit thick and slick but not a turn off. Lots of dark toasty notes competing w the alcohol and hops. Mostly works. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Can at home. Not for me. Super slick and overly sweet- no balance. Looks and smells great but goes downhill once it goes down the hatch. Super roasty, earthy, caramel but just too much of a good thing. And thepine/ citrus hop notes don’t seem to balance it out. Syrupy. Won’t have this again.

16 ounce can from Beer Study, 4/1/15. Dark brown with a massive foamy tan head, most of the glass, a sign of something amiss. Aroma of tart fruits and roasted malt. The taste is chocolate, tart fruits, nuts. Thin bodied. Something is wrong here.

16 ounce can. Deep black pour. Roast. Chocolate. Creamy. Decently hopped, but not big like a traditional black IPA.

Deep brown pour with a ruby hue, beige head and sticky lacing .... Aroma of caramel and roasted malts and light citrusy hops .... Taste is of mostly roasted malts, dark chocolate, caramel malts and some citrusy bitter hop bite .... More roasted flavors than anything .... Has a lingering bitter hoppy and roasted malt finish ... Mouthfeel is slightly oily ... Decent stuff
