This is 4.5%. Clear copper color, small beige head. Light nose, just some sweetish hoppyness. Light palate. Light woody hoppyness leading to dry finish. Boring ESB, maybe that 5.2% was better.

[cask at the 2009 Scottish Real Ale Festival] Strong Scottish ale, pours dark with very little head. Taste is fruity, but more pruney than blackcurrant. Good balance of malts in there as well, plus an additional smokiness - the tasting notes suggested it would be a "perfect beer for fireside drinking with cheese and oatcakes". I don’t think you can argue with that, it was even pretty good when drunk around a rickety table on a Friday afternoon [28062009]

Cask at the Justice Mills (JDW), Aberdeen. Murky chestnut brown with a dense cream head; toffee aroma; creamy in the mouth with biscuity malts anddry hops; slightly smoky finish. Not a bad pint.
