Lager Ale Fusion
Light, crisp and refreshing with clean herbal and floral flavours. The History - Steam beer, associated with California came from fermenting lager yeast and malt at a much higher temperature than normal. Dating back to as early as the Gold Rush, this was generally out of necessity due to lack of available ice and cold water.

50cl bottle. Pours a very slightly hazy lemon colour with steady bubbles and a nice head. Nose of slightly sweet malt probably going into toffee apple, maybe with a hint of creme brulee. Taste of creamy apple and grapefruit. Palate is medium bodied with a creamy/tangy texture and a clean finish. Overall, a solid ale.

Cask (handpump) @ Hobgoblin, 2 Broad Street, Reading, Berkshire, England RG1 2BH.

Light unclear light medium yellow colour with a small to small average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, white head. Aroma is moderate malty, hay, toasted, fruity, light toffee notes. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average to long duration, citrus, fruity. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is flat to soft. [20110428]

Cask at 2011 Deeside Beer Festival. It pours hazy straw yellow, with a very thin bubbly white head and soft carbonation. The nose is hay, grass, pine and white bread. The taste is hay, tangy lemon, lime, orange zest and soap. It is very light, perhaps too watery in the mouth. It is easy to drink, but this is definitely not my favourite style.

On cask (handpump) at the Hobgoblin, Reading on 28 April 2011. Described as a "Lager Ale Fusion". Very pale straw colour. No condition. Rather flat mouthfeel. Rather raw malt feel. Not great but probably more down to the condition than the beer itself. And a rather delicate quaffing beer such as this, which aims to be crisp and refreshing, really needs to be served in lively condition. It will prone to suffer more than something more robust if the condition is lacking. Flagged for re-rate.

Bottle from Oddbins, Aberdeen. Hazy pale golden yellow colour with a good foamy head and lively carbonation. Tropical fruit aroma. Oaty, yeasty, citrus fruit flavour. Sharp with bitter aftertaste. Somewhere between a lager & blonde ale as it says on the bottle. OK.

Cask handpull at Hobgoblin Reading. Pale gold slight haze no head. Slight yeast aroma. Some apricot and citrus fruits. Easy drinking. Could be in better condition. Some hop bite on finish.
