Brewed in the heart of Aberdeenshire, over the hill from the site of Macbeth’s final stand, this ale celebrates the reign of one of Scotland’s most misrepresented monarchs.

Pours dark amber with a thick creamy white head. Notes of biscuit and citrus fruits are most apparent on the nose. The taste is hop forward but well balanced with a malty back bone and mild caramel sweetness. The body is rich and velvety with a thick head and medium to high carbonation leaving lacing on the side of the glass. Overall, an excellent representation of the style and one that I will go back to again.

500ml bottle. Thin white head, nice little bit lacing. Clear reddish amber body. Not much nose, a little biscuit, slightly metallic. Flavour is straw, a little spice, gentle bitter finish. Sweet overtones, some honey and caramel. High carbonation, finish is dry. Would be great on cask.

Bottle. Caramel, pine hops and a metallic copper flavour. A pretty decent bitter, would probably be decent on cask.

Bottle BBE: Mar ’16. Well-chilled. Pours a clear amber body, with small-medium, loose off-white head. Sweet, biscuity malt nose, very much akin to an English Bitter. Some grassy hop aromas, but fairly low intensity. A medium, honeyed sweetness and a light bitterness develop. The ale is light-bodied, with a thin, slightly foamy texture. Carbonation is medium-high and the finish gently sweet and fruity, but fairly short. Very much a traditional, English style pale ale. Well-made, with no off-flavours, but fairly bland and lacking anything noteworthy.
