Scopey (3380) - Croydon, Greater London, - MAR 1, 2011
500ml bottle from Dobbies, Aberdeen. It pours a cloudy orange colour with a very thin white head and very low carbonation. The nose is sweet orange, lemon, yeast, caramel and horlicks. The taste is wood, smokey, tangy orange, lemon and lime zest, leading to a light bitter finish. It’s fairly thin, uncomplicated and inoffensive. A fairly drinkable bitter.

Delt flaske hos Ole Anders des-12: Litt mørkere enn LAF, også her kortvarig skum. Floral aroma og frisk bitterhet. Bra munnfylde, medium og tørr ettersmak. Bitrere enn LAF som vi hadde først. En brukbar golden ale, men ikke i klasse med f.eks Lia Faill.

Aroma: Clean, earthy and malty.

Appearance: Clear amber body with a small white head that retains well. Lots of carbonation. Slight lacing.

Taste: Lovely balance between deep, earthy malty flavours and very tangy, almost sour, citrus hops. Easy drinking and moreish.

Palate: Medium body with a slick, oily texture. Lively carbonation.

Overall: The best Deeside beer I’ve tried (I’ve had a few, only got round to rating a couple of them) and, to date, my favourite bitter.

50cl bottle. Pours golden/orange with steady to frantic bubbles and a nicely proportioned head, The nose has oranges and a little toffee. The taste is of malt and some tangy toffee. The palate has a medium body, medium texture and a fairly clean finish. Overall, it’s another bitter, very drinkable but not particularly distinguished.
