[cask at SRAF’11] Black beer with a beige head that reduces pretty quickly. Lovely roasty, smoky aromas of burnt malt and damp straw (in a good way). The mouthfeel is also impressive, very smooth and really well-balanced. Long bitter roast finish with again that slight edge of smoke. Excellent stuff [16062011]

Cask at 2011 Deeside Beer Festival. It pours jet black with a thin foamy tan head and soft carbonation. The nose is smokey bacon, bonfire, dark chocolate, sesame seed and perhaps a little soy sauce. The taste is smoke, charcoal, sesame seed, soy sauce, liquorice, bitter chocolate and a little caramel, with a surprisingly bitter finish. Good quality stout but, which is perhaps a bit too thin to handle the bitterness.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jerc (5591) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 16, 2010
2010-08-01. Black body with a small foamy beige head. 3+ Dusty roast in the aroma with mocha accents. 6+ Flavour is milder than expected, mild sweet malt base but the dry roasty bitterness grows exponentially towards the finish, leaving a dry roasty character to linger in the finish and aftertaste. 6+ Smooth average palate is pretty good for a cask but thin for the beer itself. Pretty good but the roast character is not entirely to my tastes. Cask at Market Porter, London
