3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 golubj (1376) - San Mateo, USA - NOV 28, 2007
Cask at the Blind Tiger, labeled Contessa. Light orange color, mostly opaque, and no head. Aroma of fruit, berries, both sweet and tart. The flavor started out a little tart (maybe lime mixed with fruit), and a twiggy blueberry flavor followed. The finish was slightly grainy malt along with the tartness that stayed on the palate.

Tap at Barcade. Sour cherry, bread, funky aroma, with notes of lemon and cranberry. Lacking in body, feels highly anemic, sour up front and in the back. Puckering pomegranate. A solid effort.

Tap at Barcade. Hazy orange-amber pour. The nose is fairly light and lean. A bit of berryish fruitiness with lots of raspberry character. Fairly spicy with a kiss of tartness on the back as well. Softly sweet with a very lean malt base. A little bit vineous as well. It’s got a lot of finesse.

Tap at Barcade: Hazy deep copper with an off white film of head. Tart & fruity aroma. Some lactic, mild acidity meshes with a cranberry and cherry fruity tartness. Crisp body with a quenching palate. Tart fruity flavor. Encompasses tart cranberry and some cherry notes. Mild tannins come into the back. A light lactic tartness is present throughout. Was this inoculated? (Right now it’s listed as Belgian Ale)

Smells and tastes much more like a Flemish Sour even though I was expecting a nice Belgian reserve. Smells of coriander and orange along with notes of sourdough. Pours and amber gold. Citrus flavor, smooth but too carbonated for me.
4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 hophead75 (2005) - Largo, Florida, USA - NOV 23, 2007
a tulip at the brewery then a growler taken out. Hazy orange in color with a medium off white head. Aroma is pretty fruity- orange zest, pineapple, pear and spicy with some vanilla. Taste is orange, pear, passion fruit...light to moderately spicy. Medium bodied with a creamy mouthfeel. Yeast character was very bright considering this beer was over a year and a half old. Malt character shows light notes of oxidation, but that is a very minor complaint. I really enjoyed this.
