Tap at Stanton Publick House. Deep brown beer, with a thin white head. Very spicy aroma with loads of nutmeg and allspice, some cinnamon and light gingery character. There is a great lovely bready character with even a touch of buttered toast. Flavour is spicy with lots of cinnamon and clove and a great pumpkiny character. Yeasty and sweet. The yeast is a little bit dirty, but the beer is pretty good nonetheless.

On tap at defiant brewery. Pumpkin pie aroma. Dark mahogany. No head. It’s got malt, pumpkin, spice, banana - has a great feel and drinkability. Excellent.

On tap at the brewery. Served in a plastic Defiant cup so it was hard to see the lacing and true color but it was on the dark side with obvious stickiness. Definite aroma of pureed pumpkin and cinnamon with other spices that I’m not the type to pin-point (for better or worse). Tastes like it smells........delicious. The flavor is as pumpkinny as I’ve had from a pumpkin beer and I love it. I’d never picture myself a pumpkin beer lover but I love this one and will be sad when it’s gone for the year. Moderate to heavy mouth feel really complements the apparent flavor. I don’t want to drink this all night but a glass of it hits the spot. Impressive enough to make me write my first review.

Tap at Barcade. Completely over the top pie spice aroma, more than any I’ve experienced, but I like it. A lot. Very flat body, which unfortunately kind of ruins the flavor. Pie crust and spice and not much else. Defiant seems to have a lock on many aspects of good brewing but few if any of them have the right body; it seems they may use a house yeast that is a bit lacking.

Tap at Barcade: Thin looking headless amber. The aroma has lots of clove/all spice and cinnamon along with a sweet toffeeish/brown sugar character- like pecan pie. Slick mouthfeel/ Softly sweet yet rich. Pecan pie flavors with lots of spicy cinnamon and a very subtle herbal back. An interesting spice beer.

on tap at Defiant. Almost clear amber in color with a very small head that dissipates quickly. Aroma of spices, toasted malt, molasses. Taste is molasses, this is medium sweet with some nice holiday/pumpkin spices. Carbonation was low with hurt hte mouthfeel a bit but otherwise this was a good offering.

This new seasonal offering pours brown. It has a wonderful holiday aroma that really reminded me of pumpkin pie and gingerbread cookies. The flavor is much more subtle and sweet. Just at the end you get the spiciness and pumpkin flavor. A nice change of pace for a pumpkin ale.

Cask at the Blind Tiger. They said it was the Defiant Pumpkin Ale, so I am assuming that is this beer. Dark orange color. Aroma of pumpkin, cinnamon, and some peppery malt. The flavor was dominated by the spice, caramel malt, and pepper. Maybe the best aroma for a pumpkin beer I have had this year, but not the best flavor.

UPDATED: MAR 2, 2007 Brewery, this was amazing! A reallly dark pumpkin beer, with a tan head. The nose was caramel, fruit (apple?) and spice. The taste had raisins and and a very deep apple. Great pumpkin beer.

Sampled at the Brewery and again from a growler. Dark amber color with a good sized beige head. Let me start off by saying that I really don’t like pumpkin beers, they just don’t do it for me. This one however, was quite different. Where most pumpkin beers are over the top spiced and unbalanced, this one was mellow and just right. Nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla, pumpkin and a touch of caramel covered apples are the dominant aromas and flavors, but they don’t overpower and meld together beautifully.
