I just became a huge fan of Defiant. First beer of the evening. Nice dark amber, clear. Goes down way too easy.

Tap at Barcade. Very dry, doughy, grainy, barley soup aroma. Excellent, if not more Belgian-like than German. Flavor is dry and bready, assertively grainy, banana and veggies. Nice. Kind of minty, with the slightest hint of white sugar in the finish. Excellent example, although whether this is really a Maibock I’m not so sure.

Tap at Barcade. A very nice golden pour. The nose is quite light and lean. Also fairly hoppy, although less so than the pilsner. It’s fairly crisp and crackery – a welcome departure from the normal sweetness of the maibock. Biscuity malt base and a kiss of herbal character and a soft hoppy bitterness. It’s a pretty solid brew, more strong pils than maibock, but it’s tasty.

Tap at Barcade: Hazy light golden pour with a white film. Dry pils aroma- crackery, mildly biscuity- similar to their Prohibition Pils with some evident noble hop grassiness. Fluffy body with a dry flavor. Minerally and crackery. A bit airy and wafery. Mildly hopped back. A less peppery version of their Prohibition Pils. Way drier than most Heller Bocks. Nice.

Perhaps the best bock outside of germany. Nice subtle hops, good maltiness, grassy and floral, everything a good bock should be

Thanks to Notalush for sharing his brew with little ol’ me...On cask at Bobbique...Very strikingly malty beer - and quite sweet too. It is a pleasant, honey-sweetness, not syrupy at all. The flavor is not complex, but mostly filled with wheat and malts. The hops are well-hidden. A very smooth-drinking beer, but it is on cask, so it doesn’t surprise me that its easy to drink.

Cask at Bobbique - a rather odd way to serve a maibock, but I’ll allow it - fairly dark copper for the style, with a rather small head, especially for a cask beer - fruity and floral aroma, with some grassy, earthy hints around the edges - pretty sweet, even for the style, with flavors of caramel, raisins, cherries - lingering raw cane sugar sweetness through the finish - a decent attempt, but a tad too sweet.
