On tap at a specialty bar in Bagota, NJ. I thought it was delicious. Iím a sucker for carmelly malt, and this oneís got it in spades. It could stand to be a little more viscous, but for an American dunkel, itís pretty nice.

Bottle from Lou18 via Mystery Swap 2.0. Pours turbid deep coppery/brownish with a big, fluffy, off-white head. The head is louder than a two-bit whore whoís just been stiffed. The aroma is caramel malty, with some citrus (orange, tangerine), hops, and slight spicy notes. The flavor is caramel malty with a solid hop bill, mid-palate mango, tangerine, and black pepper, and some finishing cognacy notes. Very complex in flavor and aroma, with an extremely lively, well balanced fruity and hoppy palate that provided some aromas and flavor hints that I seldom see in lagers, but would like to see more of.

The only real flaw I find with this beer is the fruitty hop taste. Easily the best Defiant beer Iíve had. I

Location: Sampled at the NY Brewfest on Governorís Island, 6/19/10

Aroma: The nose is mostly toasted and cereal malts
Appearance: Pours a hazy, dark reddish color with a fluffy head
Flavor: The flavor is pretty good, a nice cereal/grain feel to it with just a touch of hops
Palate: The body drinks really nicely, with a solid mouthfeel
Overall Impression: Overall, I thought this was a pretty good beer. A nice looking amber beer with a good flavor and a nice mouthfeel. Solid and enjoyable. I liked both of the Defiant beers that I tried at the festival.

Sampled from a keg at Joeec5ís house. Hazy dark amber color with a medium sized off white head. Mildly sweet malty aroma with some caramel and grassy hops. Flavor was lightly sweet, with a nice nuttiness and caramel notes to the malt. Mild hop bitterness on the finish. Very drinkable.

On tap... somewhere. Poured into a pint glass. Dark clear color, like a nut brown ale but lighter. Nice molasses smell. No head at all and no lacing. Clean, dry mouthfeel with rather little body, but thatís not bad at all; makes it easy to drink. Tastes smokey with molasses, toffee, and a slight sour undertone. Excellent beer. I really like dark lagers and Iím glad to have tried this one. Perfect session beer; I wish I could get it easier!
