dunkelbitte (20), New Jersey, USA Apr 27, 2007 On tap at a specialty bar in Bagota, NJ. I thought it was delicious. I’m a sucker for carmelly malt, and this one’s got it in spades. It could stand to be a little more viscous, but for an American dunkel, it’s pretty nice. Eyedrinkale (3091), Beer Town, New York, USA Nov 24, 2007 The only real flaw I find with this beer is the fruitty hop taste. Easily the best Defiant beer I’ve had. I DocLock (4047), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 21, 2007 Bottle from Lou18 via Mystery Swap 2.0. Pours turbid deep coppery/brownish with a big, fluffy, off-white head. The head is louder than a two-bit whore who’s just been stiffed. The aroma is caramel malty, with some citrus (orange, tangerine), hops, and slight spicy notes. The flavor is caramel malty with a solid hop bill, mid-palate mango, tangerine, and black pepper, and some finishing cognacy notes. Very complex in flavor and aroma, with an extremely lively, well balanced fruity and hoppy palate that provided some aromas and flavor hints that I seldom see in lagers, but would like to see more of. hophead75 (1631), Boonton, New Jersey, USA Mar 8, 2007 sampled at the brewery. Medium amber in color with a medium off white head. Aroma, is light hops and malty. Taste is toasty malt, smooth caramel, and a nice lightly bitter finish. pretty nice session lager. mkobes (2015), New York, USA Feb 24, 2008 On cask at Brazen Head. Deep copper orange in color with no head. Fruity hoppy aroma. Malty caramel notes. Hoppy earthy flavor. Sweet tasting. Finish is malty. Medium bodied. Decent beer.
