nhorween (488), New York, New York, USA Jul 19, 2008 Growler from Bowery Beer Room, opened one day later, almost flat - not happy with Whole Foods... Despite that, sweet and spicy aroma, lightly hoppy. Tropical fruit. Sweet tarts in the aroma. Apples. Balanced, but sweet triple aroma. Belgian yeast and slightly bready. Spicy and hugely smooth finish. Pithy citrus at the very end. Excellent beer, I’ll need to get it properly poured. Glouglouburp (1876), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jul 2, 2008 In short: A refreshing and tart Triple. Excellent.
How: Bottle. Sample at Mondial de la Bière 2008
The look: Cloudy banana-yellow body topped by a small white head
In long: Lemony nose. Full and fluffy body. Honey cookies, lemon juice and apricots, lots of dry grassy hops, light tickling spicy feeling. Rather tart, a lot more than usual for the style. This is like a big fluffy and tart pilsner on steroids. More refreshing and highly drinkable than a 9% Belgian Ale ought to be. I have been disappointed by some of Defiant offerings but this one was Wow! Now you’re talking!!! And unless you’re a married man you can continue doing so. Rciesla (712), Brick City, New Jersey, USA Jun 19, 2008 Draft pours a hazy orange golden body with a big head. Aromatics is citrus and spices. Flavor is lemon zest, orange spice, and a bit of etoh. only okay though. Rastacouere (5202), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Jun 5, 2008 Objectively speaking:
Very pleasant Tripel with wholesome yeast character.
I like:
Really authentic take on the style, yet with its own personality. Brightly hopped. Full carbonation supports the medium body. Biscuity and herbal palate with a zesty tang in the finish. Remarkably hidden alcohol.
I dislike:
A bit overly citric if anything, but this was a lovely ale.
jerc (3056), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 4, 2008 2008-05-31. Hazy egg-yolk golden yellow, small white head. (3+) Light floral and spice notes in the aroma, muted malt. Similar flavour, muted floral, zippy lemon note, mild yeast character. Smooth average plus palate. Little or no alcohol is present in the flavour which is impressive. (3+) Pretty pleasant but just a touch too mild and subtle to score higher. Bottle, Mondial, Montreal, 5T?
