3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 chriso (7065) - London, - JAN 12, 2012
From bottle at RBESG Grand Tasting, held at Dean Swift, on 7 August 2011. A bold and rather unusual step to produce a rauchbier as one of the first offereings from a new brewery. Mid brown colour with some haze. Plenty of smoke in the aroma - meaty but with a slight ashy feel too. Plenty of smoke on the palate but I didn’t feel it married perfectly with a sweetish, caramel/toffee malt character. Not too sticky though. Maybe something of a work in progress but, overall, an enjoyable first sight.
