I'm going to go against the grain and say I really liked this beer. It had a slight candy aroma, which I found a tad unsettling. The beer itself, however, was well-hopped and and pleasant-tasting with a noticeable but not overpowering sweetness. There was a strong spice aftertaste, more than typical. Overall, a very nice beer.

Amber color - I wouldn't mind if it was a touch darker, but it looked decent enough. Sweet malt flavor with a hint of molasses. Very chewy with a mild finish. Very good for the style.

Dark yellow with little head. Little to no aroma, but it's a smooth and easy-drinking beer. It's a tad bit tart for an O-fest type lager, but this is a good drink.

(draught) Amber, clear, good yellowish creamy head. Very bready and malty nose. Bready again in the taste, malts, corn flakes but balanced by a bitter tinge of hopbitterness, without the hoparoma or aggressive bitterness. Well bodied. Nice, German-true beer. Spot on for "Brotzeit".

Amber color, but lightish. Smooth but lightish body. Sweetish aroma with a little caramel hint. Flavor is slightly toffeish and caramel - but understated. Has all the hints of a great marzen but at slight quantities.

Light amber with some transparent flakes. Barely a white edge head. Trickle of carbonation. Decent Marzen aroma of toasted Munich malts and German hops. Very fresh smelling, but light. Crisp and bracing. Munich malts right from the start with a toasty sweet aftertaste. Gentle German hop bitterness and floral spiciness. Average body. Easy drinking and smooth and clean. Finishes toastier, a bit sweeter and faintly fruity. An OK version, but predictable.

UPDATED: MAR 29, 2003 This one has varied widely for me. Tasted at the brewery, it shows a great billowing head with continual bubbling in the body, excellent candy malt aroma. The mouthfeel is thin, but there is great amber candy malt flavors, though none of the roasted notes found in German Maerzens. The finish is tight, just like Victory's and Dominion's Octoberfest beers. Other samples showed some sourness and DMS.

Tried this beer of tap, had a very light golden color with very little foam. Tasted like a regular pale ale. Very smooth tasting with the hint of sweetness.

Clear golden amber color. Small light tan head. Grainy, sweet, horse-feed nose. Sweet, grainy, pleasant malts. Toffee, faint caramel, light to medium bodied, very nicely balanced, herbal hop finish. Nicely bitter, not overdone...I could drink this all night long.

I couldn’t find this one on the site. I believe it was only released for a limited time. I only saw it once when I lived in Baltimore. Very sweet amber. Copper pour. Nose and taste is caramel, malts and spruce. Rated 2/19/03

Beer is mostly malt in taste and aroma. It works as a pub ale, but I wouldn’t rush to the store to get it. Rated 3/21/03
