Bottle from vending machine Helsinki station in St Peterburg. Consumed at breakfast time... It pours deep brown with a decent fizzy beige head. The nose is rather sweet and pungent..... loads of cheap brown bread, malt extract, malt loaf, cake, earth and marmite (although that is a disservice to marmite). The taste is a bit better thankfully....sweet, tangy dark malt, caramel, malt extract, cola, dried fruits, fruit cake, earth and cheap candy. Light body, moderate carbonation and sticky mouth-feel. I really disliked the aroma. Fairly basic Kvass...

Last sample May, 2014. A decent KVASS. Suits very good to make traditional dish Okroshka. Drinkable as is. Better than water or fizzy drinks. Not beer in general. Refreshing and energizing. Loads of sugars.

2L PET bottle (Jaamaturg, Tallinn)
Pleasant sweet malt extracty aroma, a little bit sodawatery. Pours dark, briefly fizzes. Taste as per the aroma, but does have some nice raisins. Palate sweetish, but refreshingly carbonated, a little watery. Nothing jumps out and says "yum", I’m missing the citrussy buttery breadiness, but it’s a fine re-hydrater on a hot day.

Thanks to Mora2000. The smell is very caramel, butterscotch like, sweet, and candy. The look is amber in color. The taste is really sweet, and candy like. Better than expected.

2l plastic bottle. Clear brown color. Tiny tan head. Bready, sugary, plastic notes in aroma. Sweet, slightly buttery, caramel, lemon in flavor. Quite drinkable.

Plastic bottle from Seymour, Summer Secret Santa 2012. Pours dark reddish brown color with no head. Fruity and malty aroma. Tastes like a diet fruit drink. Light, watery body with no carbonation. Weird stuff. Thanks Seymour.

Another weirdo Russian beer from a plastic jug- thanks, Seymour! Pours a dark brown amber color with a small tan ring for a head. Aroma of sweetener, dairy, chocolate, and toast. Flavor of sugary diet cola, artificial sweetener. Light-bodied, with a sweet mouthfeel and low carbonation. Weird. Not the worst thing ever, but weird.

Tasted from plastic 2 Liter bottle at 2nd STL Ratebeer Gathering. Poured a clear, dark reddish brown color with small beige head. A very sweet kvass or unfinished "small-beer" popular across Russia and other Eastern European cultures. Somewhat malty, but not very beer-like. More reminscent of Diet Coke. Sugary, somewhat artificially so, highly carbonated, sharp and metallic. Definitely interesting, but not something I’d drink on a regular basis.

A: The pour is dark brown with a definite red highlight to it and hardly any head. S: As with all examples of kvass I have had, it’s sweet. Quite a bit of caramel and toffee with some rye and dark fruits. Interestingly, there is a light roast to it. T: Starts off with a cola-like flavor. Lots of sweet prunes and sugar as well as caramel and bread. Just a mild rye flavor to this particular kvass. M: Low in carbonation with light body. O: Another mediocre kvass. Wouldn’t have this again.

Quack-Duck (8653) - Down South, GERMANY - MAY 17, 2011
2l PET-bottle. Deep brown colour with a red glow, fluffy beige head, quickly collapsing. Coke-like nose with some fruit. Sweet, slightly sour, grainy and fruity, dark dried fruit, citrus fruit, caramel, chocolate, coke... Light-bodied and rather refreshing.
