Bottle. Pours hazy orange gold with a big white head. Aroma is very dusty, musty, citrus, bread, cobwebs, horse blanket, light oak and tart fruits. Flavor is light sweet and moderate to heavy acidic. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

Bottle, 10/20/2014. Unsure what vintage but more than likely recent. Pours hazy dark orange gold, fluffy white head with great retention, sparkling bubbles apparent for quite some time. Aroma is dusty, musty sour malts, pear, tart green apple, sour funk, damp wood. Taste is tart white fruit and lemon, moderately acidic, somewhat cheesy, grapefruit bitterness and mild funk, sour malty finish a bit sweeter than some other gueuze. Bright, sparkling body.

Super hazy orange and copper coloured body with a thin half a centimetre tall pure white head. Aroma of super sour grapes, wheat, yeast, coriander seed, funk, pears, apples and more sour notes - this is exactly what you hope for when you have a gueuze. Medium-bodied; Assertive sour grapes up front with a deep yeast and citrus note and a lot of sour funk that shows through very nicely. Aftertaste shows a lot of complexity with a ton of dry notes, some hay, grass and coriander seed, but also a touch of sweetness to accompany the sourness that permeates. Overall, a very nice gueuze with a lot of character and spice, but exactly what I was expecting. Naturally, a tough beer style to go up against, but a very nice representation in my book and I definitely wish I could get this whenever I wanted! I sampled this 37,5 cL split bottle purchased from Delices and Caprises in Bruxelles, Belgium on 19-August-2013 for €6,00 sampled at home in Washington on 27-July-2014 on my last day (of two) of unemployment, before starting my next job.

Bottle at DHVL. 2000 vintage. Clear deep golden liquid with medium white head. Aroma of barnyard, cellar, bread and feces. Smell like shit, literally. Tate is light sweet and light sour with notes of barnyard, earth and raw sugar. Medium bodied with no carbonation. Really bad... Probably way too old.

2000 Vintage. 375mL bottle at DHVL, pours a clear pale golden with a medium white head. Aroma brings out stale wet wood and light funk. Flavour is exactly the same, with lots of wet wood, cardboard, and light funk. I wonder how this was when it was new - the cardboard comes out a lot, though it doesn’t exactly taste stale. Good stuff, but unexciting gueuze.

Older bottle, pre ’78. Really pretty pour, clear amber with huge 2 finger white head. Aroma is funky, some light acetone notes, cheesy notes, lots of mineral aromas as well. Taste is sour, metallic, with funky and grainy aftertaste. Palate is well carbed, med bodied and dry. Has held up surprisingly well.

Bottle (750 ml). Shared by a friend of Tyler. Very old bottle (30+ years), from before Boon. Clear golden/orange with a frothy white head and some lacing. Aroma is very finky and acidic presence and wood, but unfortunaly there’s a good amount of nail polish. Taste is very acidic too with nail polish, light caramel and lemony notes. Medium body. Lively carbonation (surprising for a bottle that old). Dry finish. Not bad at all considering the age. Too acidic and some defaults, but certainly an interesting one to try.

Older bottle, 75CL champagne size. Pour was great, 2 finger thick frothy head, muted orange appearance, minor haziness but not bad. Nose was dry, crisp, lemon grass and tea. Taste was quite acidic, some acetone and leather / shoe polish. Maybe just slightly too sweet but I finished my glass and would drink it again.

Countbeer (4726) - Best of E-Town mit ein Brauhaus, NETHERLANDS - MAR 22, 2014
Bottle: Served in a Cantillon shaker ish glass: Pretty big vast and staying white foamy head on top of a hazy yellow colored beer. Aromas of earth, dust, cellar, wild yeast, cheese, grains, old flowers, some dried apricot and stingy grainy lemon... Flavours of old malts, old wood, bitters, grains, tart, wild yeast, cheese, some older herbs, light dusty, lemon, light funky tone, some barnyard and some metal. Aftertaste is bitter, tart, some yeast, cellar, some cheese, older herbs and a dusty tone. Low carbo, light watery mouthfeel, at least a meeium body and a light creamy texture. Nice, good drinker!
