As from 2015, they started using the word "Oude" on the labels as well. Beer is nevertheless still the same.
Dekoninck Kriek lambic is a beer of spontaneous fermentation, blended from old and young lambic, matured on oak casks. Our quality is guaranteed by the addition of 200 grams of sour cherries pro liter beer. Store in a dark place, lying down. Pour very cold in balloon snifters.

This rating is for the 6.5alc Oude (À l’ancienne) version of the DeKoninck kriek and has 400g of cherries per liter. The lambic version without the "oude" is 5.0alc and is not the same product as it has much lower amount of carbonation, is made from blending younger lambics and with only 200g of cherries per liter. At least that was what the labels said as I had the opportunity to test them side by side. For the Lambic version I would give a 3/5 just to differentiate it from the oude. Both were very enjoyable, but I liked the higher carbonation and less sweet taste of the Oude.

Poured from a fresh 375 ml bottle. Careful opening these; the cork and cage shot off the second the wire was loosened. Aroma is slightly sweet with some moderately strong, jammy, sour cherry notes. Some light oak and funk notes with hints of tropical fruit. As it warms a light funk appears. Pours a dark red with some purple hues and a moderately large, thick, deep pink head that exhibits really nice retention and seems to barley recede. Moderate lacing and no legs. Flavor is fairly sweet with quite a large cherry presence including some sour cherry notes. A bit jammy. Light funk and oak. Acidity is moderate with a light citrus presence. Some tannin flavor similar to blackberry skins is also present. Very fruity. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium high carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a very fruit forward beer that is fairly sweet. The fruit really hides the base beers funk and complexity making it a bit one dimensional.

July 8, 2015. Bottle at home, best before december 11, 2015.
Clear deep red with a medium sized frothy pinkish head. Aroma is sweet, cherries, like hard cherry candy, yoghurt and light almond. Taste is light to medium sweet up front with sweet cherries and sugar with a light tart note, finish is a bit more tart and dry. Still quite sweet with a cheery candy feel to it. Medium bodied, small bubble carbonation

Bottle. Clear dark red with light pink head. Red wine, quite lactic, musty cherries, yoghurt, some wood and straw. Taste is light sweet with subtle almond bitterness and a light tart touch. Quite fruity, but more in a fruit-yoghurt sweet kind of way. Medium bodied with slight creamy feel and velvety carbonation. Decent stuff.

pours very dark red / bordeaux . Small white ( light pink ) head . Smell is rather sweet cherries . Taste is wet cherries , bit sweet, some mild sour/oaky back . I dont know, I like it ... Why is it rated so low ? Light carbo, yet not flat . I’d even say carbo is perfect in this one , as well as the MF . I am rather sure sugar was used, but not too much of it . Nice one to me !
