Medium to full body with a rich smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy roasted sweet chocolate cream and bourbon flavor with a medium to heavy sweet smooth finish of moderate to long duration. A standout brew.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 Ughsmash (5824) - Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA - MAY 25, 2011
On tap at Delafield Brewhaus, and I’ve been looking for this since I moved to Wisconsin! Poured inky black with a deep tan head.. great color to it! The aroma picked up rich roasted coffee and chocolate with a Port wine backing.. the barrel accented the malts perfectly.. warm and welcoming. The flavor found baker’s chocolate, coffee, molasses, and a touch of honey on the chewy, malty core.. vinous notes and vanilla extended outward.. dry, peppery earth and boozage rounded it out.. just a touch sharp at times, but otherwise excellent! Heavier-bodied with low-moderate carbonation on the palate.. near-perfect barrel integration.. long, warming finish. Weird that I got more wine barrel than whiskey, but it was still delicious. I need to drink more while it’s around!

On tap at Delafield Brewhaus, what a freaking find here, this beer alone is worth it to come here, poured into a 12oz snifter, pours pitch black with a thin tan head and lacing through out the glass, the aroma is full of whiskey with chocolate, coffee and toffee all together, the flavor is full of chocolate, vanilla, coffee and a finish of whiskey that is blended perfectly, seriously, this is one awesome brew!
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 biermensch (64) - USA - NOV 25, 2007
On tap at the Brewhaus. The 2007 is whiskey barrel aged for 12 months. The alcohol is 11.5. Ths is a better stout than the last release. Very balanced, sweet, chocolate, bourbon and vanilla notes. The alcohol is warming but does not overpower. One of John’s best.

On tap at the 2007 GTMW: Pours an oily opaque with a dense, small bubbled frothy dark tan head. Aroma of sweet toasty dark caramel and chocolate malts with maple syrup and a touch of oxidation. Body starts fairly full and sweet with good earthy dark chocolate bitterness and plenty of oaky bourbon warmth. A pretty good barrel-aged imperial stout.

Festival Tap: Barrel aged goodness. Another huge beer from these guys! Heavy smokey wood aromas lurking behind sweet chocolate and coffee. Oily on the lips, sticky, immediate alcohol fire is quickly drenched by sweet rushes of oozing chocolate with slight touches of dark over-ripened fruits. Dry and woody at the finish with alcohol and bitterness. Damn!

Very dark opaque brown with a small dense tan head. Aromas of dark roasted malts, dark chocolate and hint of peat. I have found with these barrel aged brew the aromas and flavors change dramatically as the temperature changes. Initial flavors are straight forward Imperial stout with dark coffee and mild licorice. As it warms the barrel flavors emerge and blend nicely. Hints of alcohol both in flavor and warmth sooth. Not over the top, just a very balanced and drinkable brew.
