Scotch Baby!! I love scotch and I love beer. If only I could have a woman while drinking this stuff. The first whiff warms your nose and throat and the first sip warms your body. Great explosion of multiple flavors. Unexpected but welcomed smoothness. Slainte!!!

Alcohol hidden poorly. Tasted like someone mixed really good bourbon with a doppelbock. Creamy vanilla flavors, touch of smoke. Dark as night, thick as molasses and sweet as love. I just didn't like how the whiskey reached over and slapped me upside the head.

Big alcohol in the flavors. Good whiskey aged barley wine. Grains, rice, malts, dark complex tones. Good consistency and mouthfeel. Coating the tongue seeping inside. Quite good.

UPDATED: AUG 31, 2004 Rerate Festival Tap 8/04: Awesome complex flavors are bursting out. Nose is huge of anice, firewood and chocolate. Dark cola colored and hazy. Mapley prunes and cholate candies. Dry and thick, swirled around some smokey/meaty flavors before covering my tongue with sweet brown sugar and caramel followed by the dry alcoholic burn. Huge. Awesome.

Ruby in color, with cardboard and acetone in the nose. Also caramel present. Alcohol is biting and I can feel it well on the back of my throat. The whiskey aging definitely takes center stage with this beer and it is appreciated. A nice touch that adds complexity and uniqueness to this brew.

Cask (RAF): DAMN! This was it, the king of the real ale fest IMO..poured a sparkling amber body with a halo of big cask-gravity-pour created bubbles...strong mesmormizing fumes of licorice, cream, lavender, chocolate, and even some more licorice...the first sip exploded in thick creamy licorice, alcoholic apricots drenched in whiskey, toffee, chocolate..the mouthfeel was one of the most chewiest I've ever experienced..This is a beautifully constructed barley wine..so chocolatey, fruity, alcoholic..DAMN!

UPDATED: NOV 29, 2003 Pours a dark copper color with no head. The aroma is pretty strong, bourbon and alcohol dominate but let a little fruitiness and smokey caramel through. For all the bourbon barrel aged stuff I had this weekend, this may have been the best.

(On tap Real Ale Fest - Chicago) Dark copper color with a thin tan head. Nail polish remover aroma with an oaky profile. Smooth whiskey flavor with some fruitiness and good complexity. Oily mouthfeel and a slight alcoholic burn in the finish. Very interesting beer style and done quite well.

An incedible barley wine! If you enjoy sipping on a fine port or bourbon, this is right up your alley. Complex yet refined, a delicious aftertaste. A true original!
