UPDATED: OCT 2, 2004 Rated 7/2/04. I wasn’t sure if this qualified as a "black and tan", so I forgot to enter my rating (actually, it isn't, since it comes out of the keg like this). Dirty amber color, fizzy bubbles around the edge. Whiskey aroma. Flavor is dominated by sweet whiskey and maybe some vanilla and licorice. A little watery and lighter than I’d have thought. Could be more complexity to...

12-oz snifter. Completely opaque muddy brown, quite still...think Kalua and creme, perhaps. Massive raisin-molasses initial aroma, with heady whisky-vanilla notes following, hint of hoppiness and much alcohol late. Amazing mellow in the flavor department, alcohol really not noticeable until quite warm, and still not all that obvious. Vanilla, peat, cherries, and a bit orangy; bit too thin at the end for the alcohol burst that finally makes its presence known. Certainly worth a try, but doesn’t add up to what you’d hope it might.
