3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 StewardofGondor (1934) - Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - JUL 15, 2005
Translucent safire / mahogany with a thin and creamy tan head. Aroma is tree sap, bourbon, cardboard and a slight trace of caramel. Whew - big time bourbon leads the flavor brigade. Hard to decipher past the whiskey elements, as the malts have taken a backseat during the 6-month aging process. Potentially some hints at white chocolate, liquor filled truffles and Irish cream. Smooth, moderate carbonation and bourbon dominated. Enjoyable. The brewmaster tells me that more beers will soon be released that have aged in bourbon barrels as well. Bring it on.

Chestnut color with a small, but stable, light tan head. Aromas of a sweet bock with caramel, whiskey oak and hints of roses. Sweet whiskey start. Actually a whiskey laced brew (without the burn). If you like whiskey, you’ll like this. If you don’t like whiskey I wouldn’t recommend it. Mild malt and butterscotch in the linger. A whiskey lover brew.
2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 8/20 hopdog (7043) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 11, 2005
On tap at the Delafield Brewhaus. Poured a darker and cloudy brown color with an averaged sized tan head. This one was all about the whiskey. Strong whiskey aromas and tastes that over powered everything else. It was like taking a watered down shot of whiskey. I usually like barrel aged beers, but I didn’t care for this one.

This beer actually smells like whiskey. Not only that, but it taste like whiskey. Since I love whiskey, I like this beer, but I could see how some people wouldn’t.
